Katsuki's earliest memories are of warm hands wrapped around his body. He's known since the ripe age of kindergarten that some fruits are picked early, but just like the seedling apple severed from the branch, Katsuki stopped living when he was six years old, when the first woman to ever love him—his kindergarten teacher—sank her teeth into his flesh and left the rest of him to rot between the bugs and blades of grass.
Or maybe it was when he was seven, when his first-grade teacher showed him what it meant to have something worth living for—even if it was sick and demented—and then lose it in its entirety.
Or maybe it was when he was nine, when fourth-grade rolled around and he learned that fire is warm from afar, but scorches and devours from up close; when he learned that warm hands can easily turn violent; when not just his parents found out what had been done to him, but Deku, too.
Or maybe he died long before any of that. Maybe he died the day that Mitsuki first looked at him with something other than adoration in her crimson eyes. When her fists first rose. When Katsuki first flinched.

"What the fuck, Katsuki?" Mitsuki demands, voice level and yet furious at the same time. "Why the hell did I have to find out about Parents' Day from an email, and not from your mouth?!"
Keeping his voice low, Katsuki grits back, "Because I knew you'd react like this, bitch!"
The back of Mitsuki's hand strikes Katsuki's face, whipping his head to the side with the force of it and he doesn't immediately move from his new position. By this point, all eyes are on him and his mother, and the room has fallen silent. With the loud thwack that rings in the air, even more so. He can already feel the bruise blooming across his tender cheek as Mitsuki's burning rage spreads to her voice.
"Don't speak to your mother like that, brat!"
When Katsuki fails to mention Parents' Day to his mother, he suffers the price; it doesn't go unnoticed by Class 1-A

"He's telling the truth," Katsuki announces, silencing the commotion among the small group there to hear of his massive mistakes. "I bullied him all throughout our childhood." The admission is not difficult. It's something he's prepared himself for countless times over in the past, waiting with bated breath for the foundation to slip and everything to come crashing down. He looks Kirishima, one of his only true companions, dead in the eyes when he says next, "I don't have an excuse." He watches the final glimmer of hope, perhaps, dim out in the boy's eyes.
Midoriya accidentally lets it slip about his and Katsuki's past. Funny enough, the only one who doesn't turn against Katsuki is the one who should hate him most.

Izuku breathes hard. “—Under a building. We’re under the building.”
