Summary
John Watson has been having strange dreams.
He doesn't want to talk about them; not about how familiar they are, not about who he is in them (because being about three feet tall with large hairy feet isn't going to go over well with his flatmate), and surely not about how there's a dragon in one of them that has his best friend's voice. But things begin to feel like they're leaking from his dream world when Sherlock takes on a case regarding a peculiar burglary. Faces he's only seen before in his sleep start to follow him everywhere. Stories he's witnessed in his fantasies are now legitimate history that he doesn't remember reading about. John begins to wonder if he's going mad, or if he's on the cusp of another adventure.
OR: In another life, John was a hobbit (whatever that is), but he doesn't quite remember that yet.

Summary
Frodo has moved into the smial at the end of Bagshot Row, but between his nightmares and the rumors of a strange monster living in Bag-End, he's not feeling too settled in. His Uncle and his strange stories about dwarves and dragons and riddles are of some comfort, but Frodo just can't shake the feeling one night that something is hiding in the shadows. Something with fangs of pure silver and eyes that could turn you to stone, something with claws like a bear and a tail like a great drake, with a roar that can shake mountains. Something that eats little faunts that stay up past their bedtime.
Oh, Mr. Baggins, what on earth have you brought into the Shire?

Unbeknownst to him, that boy talks a lot about his uncle's adventures.

*wakes up in cold sweat* what if BILBO was the emotionally distant one???
“Right so, courting went badly. He tried to–” began Dwalin.
“Yes exactly! But I didn’t fall for it!” said Bilbo.
“Then you do not like him?”
“Of course I do!”Bilbo is thoroughly disoriented when Thorin starts treating him as a friend, after weeks of quite explicit hostility. Even more when he cannot deny that Thorin is flirting with him. Almost, he allows himself to believe the dwarf could be genuine in his care. That's before he recognizes the pattern for what it is; a wicked trick to rip the only friends Bilbo ever truly had from him. He refuses to be deceived like that again.
Thorin is mostly confused and hurt, when his attempts at courting seem to result in pure fury and hatred.
