Ranboo was, undeniably, stressed for the first day back at school. It would be much different to last year, as last he started off with nobody and ended up finding a group of year elevens that welcomed him into their group, despite him being a year below. This year, he would have Tommy and Tubbo, of course, but that didn’t stop the fear that he would have to talk to new people in classes. Ranboo just hoped that he ended up in the same classes as Tommy and Tubbo.
It was late, he couldn’t sleep, what with all the nerves, so he resorted to his best coping mechanism: randomly texting the groupchat. Normally, he would message the big one, but in his exhaustion-addled state, he accidentally sent a message on the new chat that he had been added to last night. Tommy had apparently made it that night as well.

He placed down his phone, hearing heavy footfalls in the hallway below, eventually making their way to his ladder. Despite his dramatics in the groupchat, Ranboo didn’t mind that Techno was coming to comfort him. It had become a regular occurrence for Techno to come into Ranboo’s room and make sure he was okay, which at first sort of confused him, but he was slowly learning to accept help.
“Heya.” Techno greeted, sounding sleepy at best, “Brought some blankets… Thought it might help.” He mumbled, sitting down on Ranboo’s bed.
His instincts demanded him to snatch up the blankets and start building a nest to cuddle up with Techno in for the remainder of the night, but he ignored the urge, instead just letting out a little croak. In response, Techno clicked a few times in the back of his throat, like Phil does.
“Thank you. So much.” Ranboo murmured, gently taking the pile of blankets. His nerves seemed to be chased away by the mere presence of Techno, as if they were scared of him.
Having been given the blankets, Ranboo took some time to organise his bed into the perfect nest, letting his instincts front for just a little while. It felt good to just fulfil his urges instead of desperately repressing them. He hadn’t even noticed the little chirping vocalisations that he had been making until Techno responded to them with calming trills.
“Oh, sorry.” He apologised automatically. His uncle never had liked his absentminded chirping, so he had tried his best to not do it around him. Although, now he was staying at Phil’s, he wasn’t supposed to apologise, so he expected Techno to correct him, or something.
Techno didn’t reprimand him for his little mistake, “‘S okay kid. Just finish your nest so we can get back to sleep.”
Ah! Right, his nest. Okay, he can do that.
He finished putting the last finishing touches on the nest, adjusting pillows and priming blankets for draping over them, even though they had their wings. It was perfect - a perfect mix of his and Techno’s stuff.
“Wait, Tommy’s up, isn’t he?” Techno grumbled, turning on his phone, “Yeah, okay. He’s freakin’ out just like you. Mind a gremlin joinin’ you in your nest?”
Well, that was unexpected. It was usually just him and Techno, though Tommy was probably just as stressed as he was, so it would be rude to not let him. Tommy was his friend, after all, and Ranboo would love to help him.
“Of course, I’ll sort it out while you go, um, steal him.” Ranboo answered, oh so intelligently.
With that out of the way for now, Ranboo turned his attention to his nest. Carefully, he shuffled it around so it would fit three people, not just two. By the time it was done, he could hear hushed voices and footfalls below him, indicating the return of Technoblade, with his younger brother Tommy.
“-Techno, I just don’t really think it’s a good- Oh, hi Ranboob.” Tommy emerged from the hatch in Ranboo’s floor, “I’m being forced, coerced in cuddles. This is a travesty, you must save me.”
Ranboo stared at him, “I’m not really-”
“Tommy, move! I need to get up as well, child.” Techno interrupted, and Tommy quickly scrambled into Ranboo’s room.
Without too much hesitation, Tommy climbed onto Ranboo’s bed and into the pre-made nest. Ranboo would’ve been irritated that he did that without asking for permission, but this was Tommy they were talking about.
“This is a pretty comfy nest, Ranboo.” Tommy complimented softly, snuggling into the edge of the nest and quietly trilling. Of course, Ranboo chirped back, and there was a gentle chuckle from Techno behind him.
Tommy looked up and rolled his eyes, “Come on, you morons. I’m waiting for you.”
Oh, yeah! He should probably move, yeah. Ranboo clambered onto his bed and tentatively joined Tommy in the nest, followed by Techno collapsing behind them. They shuffled a bit, assuming comfortable positions until they were in a sort of sleep cuddle pile. Boy, would Wilbur and Tubbo be jealous if they saw this.
Ranboo sighed, it rumbling a little in his throat, resembling a kind of avian style purr. It was returned by the two other inhabitants of his nest, and he suddenly felt completely overwhelmed with love.
These people loved him, and he loved them. Techno’s wings were wrapped around him and Tommy both, holding them close, and Ranboo was leaning into his side. Tommy had taken to sprawling himself over both of them, using one edge of the nest as a cushion and both him and Techno as a mattress. Sure, it would hurt in the morning, his legs would stiff and numb, but that didn’t bother him.
They breathed together, calm and soothing, worries about school all but forgotten. Ranboo finally, finally felt like he belonged.
