Chapter 1: Beginnings

Chapter Text

Contrary to popular belief Chloé actually did her own homework, but Sabrina always insisted on helping her out. She had decided to study math alone in the school’s library. So Sabrina wasn’t there to help her. She let out a small groan and laid her head down on the table with a thump. Her brain felt like mush as numbers floated through her head. Would she even need this knowledge when she grew up? The knowledge of figuring out the area of a blueberry?

She was pulled out of her hateful thoughts about math when she overheard a hushed conversation from the other side of the bookshelf.

“She’s so strong! Max, you should've seen her, she was like pow bam bam smack! It was so awesome” Alix whisper-yelled in excitement, almost too loud for a library.

“Yes, I’m aware. You made me watch the video… Again” answered Max, the tone in his voice indicated that he was clearly amused.

“I knowwww, but she’s just so, so… you know what I mean, so-”

“Captivating?” Max asked as there was the sound of a page turning.

“Yeah” Alix sighed, voice almost lovesick?

Chloé sat up straighter and sharpened her ears, she needed to know who Alix was talking about. She wasn’t usually an eavesdropper, but this was about someone Alix liked, it was important. Definitely just for blackmail.

“Is this just admiration or do you perhaps like Queen Bee?”

“Of course I like her! Everybody does!” Alix said, maybe a little too loud for a library.

“No, I meant romantic feelings”

Chloé’s eyes widened in shock as Alix spluttered.

“I-... Maybe, but you can’t blame me” Alix said after a moment of silence.

The realization hit Chloé hard, Alix liked girls romantically. She liked Queen Bee. Queen Bee who was also Chloé. Alix liked her.

“I don’t blame you, superheroes are always an appeal”

“Wait- You like a superhero too!” Alix hissed in realization. Chloé could picture the grin that was plastered across her lips. “Who is it? Chat Noir?”

Max let out a small sigh. “King Monkey” he mumbled.

“You do realize that he’s Kim, right?” Alix asked. Chloé’s eyes widened, Kim was King Monkey?

“Yes, which makes it even worse” Max grumbled.

“Who do you think Queen Bee is?” Alix asked after a short silence.

“Markov nor I can’t figure it out”

“Maybe that’s good”

Yes Alix, it is, Chloé thought as she pressed her forehead against the cool table again, this time not making any noise.

“It is” Max agreed, “If we figure it out and we get akumatized…”

“Yeah, not good at all… Thankfully King Monkey is just a temporary hero unlike Queen Bee”

“Yes… Shall we go back to studying? Like we’re supposed to?”

“Ugh fine”

Chloé stopped listening to them. Alix liked Queen Bee! Alix liked her! Someone she potentially found romantic interest in liked her back. It was almost too much for her brain to handle. She didn’t even know what to do with this information. Chloé sighed and rubbed her temples, she was done studying for today. Two revelations had dawned on her already mushy brain, so even trying to keep studying was too much.

---x---

Queen Bee was soaring through the city with her stinger that kinda worked like Ladybug’s yo-yo. Usually when she was on a night stroll she didn’t have a destination in mind, but this time she did. Thankfully she didn’t have patrol today. Chat and Rena did though and when they had patrol together there would most certainly be mischief.

Queen Bee had her eyes and ears open for any movement or sound that could indicate that the mischief duo were following her. It would be a disaster if they found out who she was going to visit, they would tease her relentlessly and try to wingman her. And if they found out then Ladybug and Carapace would too. She wasn’t really up for Ladybug scolding her about putting civilians in danger by midnight visits. Carapace on the other hand would probably be chill about it, he would just give her tips on how to ask Alix out.

She let out a sigh of relief as she landed on the roof facing the Kubdel residence, neither Chat nor Rena had seen her. She hadn’t seen them either, so they were probably on the other side of Paris at the moment. Queen Bee straightened up her posture and walked to the edge of the roof to look inside of Alix’s room. She hoped that the other girl was still awake so this wouldn’t be as creepy as it felt.

Alix was sitting by her desk, tapping away furiously on her laptop. Several open monster energy cans were on her desk and the dark circles under Alix’s eyes were illuminated by the light of the laptop. She was bobbing her head along to the beat of a song that played from the earbud that was in her ear. Queen Bee wondered what she was writing about, but knowing Alix it was probably about something nerdy.

She took the leap from the roof to the windowsill. Her landing made a low sound which made Alix shoot up from her hunched over position and look over to the window. Queen Bee smiled awkwardly and waved in an equally awkward fashion. Alix’s eyes widened and hurried to stand up and walk over to the window to open it.

Queen Bee racked her brain on something to say, preferably something smooth. “Uh, hi” she said nervously when the window opened. Shakespeare could never.

“Hi” answered Alix, confused as to why her favorite heroine was here. “Uhm… Why are you here? Is it an akuma?”

Queen Bee shook her head with her usual coy smile on her lips, “A little birdie told me that you were my biggest fan”

Alix blinked slowly, her face and ears flushing adorably. “Y-yeah… Do you, uhm, do you want to come in?”

“Sure” Queen Bee shrugged. Internally she was screaming though.

She closed the window behind her and looked around the room. She had been here once before, but that had been as a civilian when she was seven years old. The room had changed a lot. The walls were no longer light green but a deep blue that almost looked black in the dark, the floor had a big black rug that looked almost just as soft as the bed that was pushed against a wall. She looked up and saw the glow in the dark stars, they were the only thing that hadn’t changed.

The smell of the bedroom had also changed. She couldn’t remember what it had smelled like before, but now it smelled like scented candles, monster energy drinks, old books and home . It made her want to stay forever.

Alix had plopped down on her chair again, facing Queen Bee and observing her with furrowed brows. Queen Bee looked at the shorter girl and then down at the rug again before lowering herself down to the floor so she could lay down on it.

Alix stifled a giggle, “What are you doing?.

“Your rug is soft” She mumbled and looked up at the fake starry sky, “I like your ceiling”

“Yeah… Mom helped me put the stars up after catching me up on the roof looking at the stars” Alix told her and leaned back in her chair to also look up, “Apparently it was too dangerous for six year old me”

“I see” Queen Bee said before turning to look at Alix, “Seems like you’ve always had the thirst for danger”. She sent her a wink.

“I guess” Alix mumbled. She let out a small sigh, “Could you tell me why you’re here?”

“I told you, It’s to visit my biggest fan”

“That seems just like a coverup”

Queen Bee opened her eyes and looked over at her. Alix was staring at her, a confused but adorable look on her face. “Fine… I kinda sort of know you as a civilian? Or more like I know who you are, obviously, that’s why I’m here. But I’ve seen you around and you intrigue me! So I, uh, decided to visit you” she rambled while fidgeting with her hands.

“I intrigue you, huh?” Alix smirked while raising an eyebrow. Queen Bee blushed and turned her head so she could stare up at the ceiling instead of the beauty on the chair.

There was a long comfortable silence before Queen Bee spoke up again, not to answer Alix’s question though. “What were you listening to?”

“Queen” Alix answered, shrugging.

“How fitting, since I’m Queen Bee”

They fell into a comfortable conversation. Around 3 am Alix fell asleep in her chair. Queen Bee smiled softly before getting up from the comfortable rug. She lifted Alix up in a princess carry and placed her carefully on top of the covers on her bed. She then snuck over to the laptop, saved the document and turned it off. She glanced around the room and found a pile of post-it-notes. She quickly grabbed a yellow one, wrote a quick message and put it on Alix’s forehead to be sure that she would see it when she woke up.

Queen Bee left after that, refraining to press a goodnight kiss to Alix’s forehead. She slumped onto her own bed after releasing her transformation and passed out, still wearing the same clothes that she had had in school earlier. Pollen looked at her and then shook her head, smiling fondly. The kwami flew over to the bed and pulled a blanket over Chloé’s resting form before flying over to a soft pillow and falling asleep.

---x---

Alix was woken up by the loud beeping of her alarm clock. Letting out a loud groan, she slammed her hand on it to turn it off. She laid still in bed for a moment, eyes closed while she recollected what had happened in her dream. In the dream Queen Bee had showed up outside her window and Alix had let her in. Queen Bee had been laying on her rug and staring up at her ceiling as they chatted away.

She let out a sigh, it was time to get ready for school. When she opened her eyes, parts of her vision were blocked by something yellow. She frowned in confusion and took the post-it-note off her forehead.

“Thanks for the company last night, I’ll see you around. xoxo /QB” It stood in a cursive handwriting, so last night wasn't a dream. Queen Bee really had visited her last night. The realization brought a smile to her face.

There was a yell from Jalil downstairs, which probably meant that he had burned part of their breakfast or himself… Again. Alix slowly arose from her bed to go down and help Jalil. She noticed that she was still wearing the clothes from yesterday.

Must have fallen asleep when I was hanging out with Queen Bee, she thought as she sleepily trudged over to her closet. She really needed caffeine in her system to pull through this day without falling asleep in class.

I'm thinking of maybe making some chapters to follow this up? Maybe one where they acc get together?
