Chapter Text
The sun shone brightly through the slightly cracked windows of Sawamura Eijun’s room, taunting him to wake up and seize the day. Eijun groaned covering his head with a cotton pillow and tried to ignore the impending doom his reality had decided to grace him with.
“Eijun, honey, come down! It’s almost time for you to head to your new school!” He heard his mother bellow from down the staircase.
“Just leave me here to die.” He muttered in response, knowing well she can’t hear him.
Silence followed after and Eijun gave himself a huff of approval before settling back down into bed and hoping his parents would neglect him for once in his life.
Obviously, that was not going to be the case because God cursed him with loving and caring guardians.
“You better be up and getting ready or else I’m sending your grandfather up there!’ Eijun shot up and messed up his own hair in frustration. “Ugh—I’m up!” He yelled back, knowing his mom could hear him considering how loud his voice was. It runs in the family.
Eijun stood up blowing his bangs out of his face before standing up and walking towards his vanity. He kicked aside the half-opened boxes laying around with some of his stuff still unpacked and looked at his disheveled appearance in the mirror. His bright gold eyes gleamed back at him with irritation and a frustrated frown—not pout—was on his lips.
“Hello California,” He mumbled, “I’m Eijun Sawamura, the guy you decided to fuck repeatedly in the goddamn asshole and ruin the life of.”
That didn’t really make him feel any better, so Eijun decided to just take a shower and suck up whatever juices the universe decided to throw at him. After getting promoted to VP for whatever the fuck company Eijun’s father was working for, his life had turned upside down. That also meant leaving Wisconsin—leaving his friends behind. It just wasn’t fair. Now he was supposed to begin at this new high school as a sophomore and just start over? How would he be able to? Starting in a new school at a completely new place where you knew no one was intimidating. Not that Eijun was scared or anything—of course not!
Once he stepped out of the shower and brushed his teeth, Eijun dried his hair roughly with a towel, trying to rid his brain from the negative thoughts. No, I’m going to make the best of it, He thought, or else Wakana’s gonna get so pissed at me for not even trying. Eijun threw on his skinny jeans with a loose blue top that was tucked slightly into his jeans and covered half of his palms. Satisfied with himself, he grabbed a hold of his bag by the handle and made his way downstairs, as slow as humanly possible.
“’Morning, son,” Eijun’s father, Kaito, greeted, chewing on a piece of toast. “Excited for school?”
Eijun groaned in response, replying with, “Why does every single dad say the same thing every single time their family moves?”
“Are you…Are you comparing me to those lifetime television shows?!”
“If the shoe fits, Dad.” Eijun rolled his eyes and kissed his mom’s cheek.
“Don’t be so cheeky, brat!” Eitoku, Eijun’s grandfather, snarked. “You got your mother’s looks but that doesn’t save you from an ass beating!”
“He used to be so cute!” Kaito sobbed, attempting to get empathy from his only son.
Eijun just grinned in response and hugged his dad and grandfather. “Well guess I know where I get my cheekiness from.” He sang out and sat down, filling his plate with whatever was on the table.
“Definitely your father’s side,” Saya, Eijun’s mother giggled. “And the brashness, and the honesty…and the loud person—”
“We got it!” The three males chorused.
“Why did we have to move, again?” Eijun scrunched up his nose, mixing his spoon in his cereal. “We could literally do the same thing we do now, but in Wisconsin!”
“Honey, I know you’re upset about moving, but this is California! It’s a chance for you to broaden your range!” Saya said, sitting down with him. “I know you’ll miss your friends and they’ll miss you, but this could be good for us.”
“I’m sorry I uprooted your life, Eijun,” Kaito smiled apologetically, “I wish there was a choice in the matter but let’s make the best of it.”
Eijun exhaled in irritation but didn’t bother fighting his parents on it. He knows they had no choice in the matter. He just needs to survive the next two years.
“I’ll drive you to school,” Kaito said getting up. “Hurry and finish breakfast.”
“Okay.” Was all Eijun could say considering all of his options were now gone. What else could he really say? Might as well get today over with, he huffed getting up after finishing his cereal.
“Have a great day, you two,” Saya pecked both of their cheeks and walked them out.
“Thanks love, we will.” Kaito smiled while Eijun chewed on a piece of gum,
“Yeah, no promises.” He mumbled and followed his dad out.
~~XxX~~
“You got everything? Lunch, notebooks, pencils—all of that?”
“Yes, Dad, I have everything.” Eijun’s eyeballs have a pretty good view of his brain considering how many times he rolls them in a day. “Go to work, I’ll be okay.”
Kaito sighed and smiled affectionately at Eijun. It was really hard for Eijun to stay annoyed at his helicopter parenting at that. He leaned in and kissed Eijun on his temple. “I love you.”
“I love you too Dad.” Eijun smiled, “It’s just high school, don’t worry too much.”
“That’s exactly why I’m worried.”
“Touché,” he winked stepping out of the car and waving at his dad before walking onto campus. The longer he stayed there, the more reluctant he would be to leave. No, Eijun needs to face the music. The music being a bunch of horny clique-based teenagers because—what the actual fuck? Looking around, all Eijun saw was a horrible rendition of Mean Girls. Guys looking for which girls to hook up with and what sports to play, girls obsessed with topping the social hierarchy, geeks, nerds, even subsections of these cliques existed.
“Oh my god,” He whispered horrified, as if stepping foot in a battlefield, “I should have stayed in the car.”
He took a deep breath and steeled his nerves, walking inside the school and trying to locate the office in order to grab his schedule. You can do this, Eijun, He told himself, just don’t bitch slap anyone at this school for two years, keep your head down, and you’ll survive.
Of course, that little mantra wasn’t really going to do anything considering Eijun’s the most confrontational person he knows, right behind his grandfather and Captain America.
He stepped into the office and walked around the busy horde of students and teachers, going straight to the lady at the front desk. She was beautiful, with her dark black hair tied into a bun and glasses framing her proportionate face. She was definitely not what Eijun was expecting.
“Rei, when can I take you out?” A boy, not any older than Eijun, wearing a varsity jacket cooed, leaning over her desk.
“You can take yourself out,” She cooed back with a dangerous glint in her eye that contradicted her pleasant expression, “…of this office, goodbye Edith,”
“I told you not to call me that,” He looked around embarrassed and whispered harshly, “It’s Ed!”
“Oh, I’m sorry, Edith,” She smiled sharply, “Does that offend you? Does it make you uncomfortable? Yes? There, you’ve experienced what a woman feels when entitled little snot nosed brats try to hit on someone out of their league. Good-bye.”
“Yes, Ms. Takashima,” He mumbled dejectedly before walking out. Eijun scoffed out a laugh at the display and decided this school may not be that bad if there are teachers like her here.
“Hi,” He smiled walking up to her, “I’m new here and was told I could get my schedule at the front?”
The sharp smile she had warmed up to be more genuine and she nodded. “Of course, what’s your name?”
“Eijun Sawamura,” He placed his fingers onto the desk and bit his bottom lip, “I’m a sophomore.”
“Ah yes,” after some typing, she turned to face him with a smile, “Says you moved all the way here from Wisconsin. Pretty big change.”
“You have no idea,” He chuckled and watched as the printer whirred and creaked, printing out his schedule.
Ms. Takashima grabbed the schedule and handed the paper over to him. “Your first class is pre-calculus in room 202. It’s the door on the right when you go up this flight of stairs.”
“Thank you,” Eijun said taking his schedule and smiled at her, “Also, sorry that guy was such a jerk.”
“Hun, you got nothing to apologize for,” She snorted, “He pulls the same routine every Tuesday.”
Eijun visibly cringed and shook his head, “On behalf of the male population, we don’t accept him!”
She laughed, thoroughly amused at his proclamation and watched him stomp away. “What an interesting kid.” She hummed to herself and got ready for her next workload.
~~XxX~~
Eijun walked up the flight of stairs, avoiding the group of girls that giggled and glanced at him before whispering to themselves making him stiffen uncomfortably. No Eijun! He mentally screamed. Don’t you dare yell at them! He didn’t know if they were making fun of him or not but finding out in his usual Eijun-esque way was only gonna lead to his ass getting whooped.
“201…” He mumbled to himself looking at the doors, “Ah, here.” He gently opened the door walking in, the flurry of students that were talking quieting down and the teacher, who was only just beginning to start homeroom glanced at him.
“Can I help you?” The teacher smiled at Eijun and Eijun cleared his throat.
“Uhm, yeah—I’m new.” He handed his schedule to his teacher and waited, slightly irritated at the whispers coming from across the class.
“Oh, yes,” The teacher handed the schedule back, “You’ll sit next to Haruichi—Haruichi raise your hand—I’m Mr. Soarn. I’ll be your homeroom and pre-calc teacher for the rest of the year. Go ahead and introduce yourself, Eijun.” He smiled, which didn’t really ease Eijun’s nerves because—really what kind of name was that?
Well, might as well go all out with this introduction.
“I’m Sawamura Eijun!” He bellowed, “Hope we can get along!”
The class gaped a little and only broke the silence when a few of the girls giggled at him and some of the boys smiled. Okay so maybe this won’t be so bad.
Eijun walked over to the pink haired boy who was raising his hand. It was hard to see him at first, but his features are pretty distinctive.
“Hi,” Eijun greeted sitting down, “You’re Harucchi?”
The pink haired boy blinked—or at least, Eijun can assume he did, considering his eyes were covered by his bangs—and a small blush appeared on his cheeks.
“Ah, uh, no it’s Haruichi. Kominato Haruichi. Nice to meet you.” He spoke softly at Eijun could tell there was some assertive force there. He grinned.
“Nice to meet you, Harucchi. Consider it a nickname.” Eijun smiled.
Haruichi just smiled with a small chuckle and looked at the black-haired boy in front of him that had his head resting on his folded arms. “That’s Furuya Satoru.”
“Since when were allowed to nap in class?” Eijun snorted.
The sleeping boy stirred causing Eijun to stiffen with wide cat like eyes and Satoru turned to face him.
“It’s not like anyone can sleep with your loud voice around,” He spoke drowsily.
Eijun gasped at the audacity this guy had. How dare he!
“Excuse me?!”
“You’re excused.”
Eijun sputtered and his face turned red in irritation, What a jerk!
“Eijun, Satoru, please...!” Haruichi looked at the two back and forth in a panicked motion. “You two just met!”
“Yeah and I already wanna grate my ears.” Satoru continued and Eijun fumed.
“Back at you, asshole!”
“Eijun, Haruichi, Satoru” Mr. Soarn coughed causing the three of them to look over, “I know you all are getting acquainted but please, keep it down.”
“Yes, sir…” The three chorused, to the amusement of the rest of the class and glanced at each other. Eijun really wasn’t trying to get in trouble on his first day but damn Satoru was such a jerk.
“We’ll show you around,” Haruichi whispered with a small smile while Satoru just glanced at him with a blank look. He did nod though, so Eijun could consider that progress.
Eijun smiled and nodded back at the two of them, “That would be great, thanks.”
Okay, Eijun was slowly warming up to the idea of this school. How bad could it really be?
~~XxX~~
Turns out, Satoru and Haruichi had a lot of classes with Eijun, including sixth period lunch which he was grateful for. He wasn’t trying to eat at a table alone or worse, the bathroom.
“It’s really convenient that you have all of our classes, Eijun.” Haruichi chirped with a smile and his hand in Satoru’s. “I’m glad, you seem really nice.”
“Thanks, Harucchi,” Eijun grinned, “You and Furuya seem cool too. We just got off on the wrong foot, right Furuya?” It’s true. After six periods with him, he was kind of getting a hold on Satoru’s aloof personality.
“…”
“Answer, you jerk,” Eijun deadpanned at the look on Satoru’s face which was slightly flushed, and it almost seemed like imaginary flowers were coming out of his head from being praised.
Eijun’s always been the type to make friends wherever he goes so he’s never been a cautious type of person when it comes to meeting new people. He knows it’s a problem sometimes—being so trusting—but right now, he can’t find the downfall.
“This is the cafeteria,” Haruichi chuckled softly at the two of them, walking through the large two-way doors and into the mess hall area.
Eijun grimaced staring at the mess of cliques that happened to take up eighty percent of the cafeteria. “Why is this place so…?” He was trying to find the right words.
“Clique centered?”
“I was thinking more along the lines of if Mean Girls met the Breakfast club but yeah, go off, I guess.” He said, sitting down at a free table with the two of them.
“Cause it is.” Furuya muttered taking out his food.
Haruichi smiled apologetically, which Eijun couldn’t figure out why. He’s not the one who created the hell hole known as High School.
“It definitely is,” Haruichi said, also taking out his lunch, “And the queen bee in this scenario is none other than Alissa Hart. Avoid her like the plague, Eijun. She runs the popular crowd and the amount of power she has terrifies even business moguls.”
Eijun snorted at that and decided to humor him, “And why should I be afraid?”
“She can ruin your social life like—” Haruichi snapped his fingers, “—that. There are rumors that Hart isn’t even her real last name. That it’s just a nickname cause her family eats human organs for dinner.”
Satoru blinked, “That’s disgusting,”
Oh look, Eijun and Satoru do have something in common.
“Agreed,” Eijun laughed. “Come on, Harucchi, that’s bull.”
“Okay, maybe the organ thing is a stretch,” Haruichi blushed scratching his cheek, “But she seriously eats people alive if she doesn’t get her way—in the metaphorical sense.”
“I won’t give her any issues if she doesn’t give me any issues.” Eijun said with a shrug, hoping to appease his new friend.
“Fair enough,” Haruichi smiled and leaned on Satoru,
“So, are you guys dating?” Eijun smiled. “You’re cute. Sorry if you’re not.”
“No, we are,” Haruichi blushed and shyly looked at the ground. Eijun has never seen anyone so precious before.
Eijun grinned at that and turned to Satoru, “You better treat my Haruichi with the utmost respect, Furuya! You have my blessing! Wahaha!”
“Eijun we literally met today!”
“I’ll take good care of him—”
“Sato, not you too!”
Eijun laughed and joked with his new friends, all three of them getting to know each other. They even made plans for the weekend to hang out so they could show Eijun around and while Eijun was putting his number into Satoru’s phone, he looked up for a second to notice that most of the cafeteria had quieted down.
And he could completely understand why.
It was like this boy—man—had his own entrance and Britney spears was collectively playing in everyone’s heads as he walked—no, strutted—inside. His messy brown hair was pushed out of his face with a baseball cap that was placed backwards on his head. He was built like a Greek god and Eijun could tell through that black muscle shirt he had on. A sinful smirk adorned those beautiful lips and his face was cut to perfect. That jawline—Eijun couldn’t breathe because seriously how is this guy in high school? His tall stature demanded attention and the glasses on his face did nothing to hide those caramel brown eyes that asserted his dominance.
Jesus Christ, Eijun managed to think, Dominance? I’m not in a Fifty Shades of Grey Movie!
But honestly, Eijun wouldn’t mind being in one if it meant that guy would top him as Christian Grey. God he was so gay and this nameless character—he will thus forth be named as the sexiest high schooler alive—really brought that out of him.
“Who is that?” Eijun managed to breathe out as the guy sat down at a table with guys similarly built like him and the world was turning again.
What Eijun didn’t notice was the look of concern Haruichi gave to Furuya before speaking.
“That’s Miyuki Kazuya. School superstar. Catcher for our baseball team.” Haruichi said,
“Kazuya…” Eijun tested the name out on his tongue and felt tingles run up his spine. “He’s…really attractive.”
“He gets that a lot.” Satoru rolled his eyes and pushed his food with his fork.
“Uhm, also Eijun, I think it’s fair to tell you that, well—”
Eijun cut off Haruichi’s rambling with a harsher version of his previous question,
“Who is that?!” He hissed out watching a gorgeous red head with a cheer outfit on walk over to where Kazuya was sitting, planting herself on his lap, and giving him the nastiest, R-rated kiss of the fucking century.
Okay so maybe Eijun was exaggerating. But fuck, PDA much?
“That’s Alissa.” Haruichi sighed. “Kazuya’s on-again-off-again girlfriend.”
“Apparently it’s on again today.” Satoru raised an eyebrow watching the disaster that was in front of them.
“He’s a player?” Eijun questioned, a frown now on his face instead of that previous wonder struck expression.
“Yeah,” Haruichi sighed. “I guess It comes with being a jock…? But it’s mostly him so I don’t think so.”
“You think he’ll let me catch for him?” Satoru questioned, taking a bit of his grape.
“Not now, Sato.” Haruichi exhaled. Eijun turned back to them and blinked. “Wait, you two are on the team?”
“Yeah.” Haruichi smiled. “Baseball season hasn’t started yet, but we practice a lot. We’re one of the best.”
“Cool!” Eijun exclaimed, “Ugh—I love baseball! I used to play in Wisconsin, but we weren’t really any good. Do you guys have try-outs right now?”
Haruichi shook his head, smiling once again apologetically, “No sorry, but you can come check out our practice sometime!”
“Sure, sounds fun.” Eijun smiled. He wanted to see how good Satoru and Haruichi were. And baseball was something he always loved. Whether it was watching local games, national games on the television, and playing on his own, he just couldn’t stop looking at the mound. If he can’t play in high school, then he’ll find the best way to watch up close. Not that he wanted to see Kazuya in action.
Of course not.
