Chapter 1: A New Sun?

Chapter Text

A shot of pain coursed through Flowery without warning, throat choking on petals as he coughed in a struggle to breath. Blinking with his eyes half open, drained and tired from what should have been his end, but somehow he persisted. Glancing down at the slice that should have killed him, now bound tightly with a transparent film of a brace holding his two halves together, petals still poking out from under it. He could see vines starting to bind himself back together in a tangled mess, body grafting back into one piece. It wasn’t a perfect situation or very medically sound, but even despite the pulsing agony, he was alive. More importantly, human again? How? The fountain should have been sealed days ago by now, right? Another stab of pain fills his mangled body, he couldn’t investigate like this, all he could do is lay there and suffer while he slowly healed.

“Uuu! Over here! Over here! I found him!”
“Oh thank goodness! Hes still alive!”
Familiar voices were a welcome sound now, he could hear the other flowers of this world getting closer, sighing as he relaxes knowing he wasn’t alone in this situation. Two approach him quickly, both shades of blue, With another following close behind.

“Flowery, speak to us, please tell us you’re going to be alright.” Blue kneels by his side with stress rarely seen in his eyes as others trail behind.

“I’ll be fine, nothing can crush the spirit of a flower… why, why is the dark world back? I thought after Kris and them left…” Talking strains him still, but this was too pressing.

“We’re wondering the same thing, by all accounts our fountain was sealed, why we’re still aware is beyond all of us.” Seth chimed in as they got closer, “We can’t even find anywhere the new fountain is.”

“A dark world without a fountain is impossible… What did they do…? This isn’t The Roaring is it?”

He tries to sit up before being forced still by Blue’s hand.

“If that were the case we’d be in much worse condition than we are now, us flowers would wilt in such harsh circumstance…”

Flowery wanted to protest, but they had a point, The Roaring would crush them like darkners, suffocate them in darkness, so they were definitely under something unique. He settles back against the tree behind him, still healing his broken bravado. Not letting it show on his face but he was lost in rushing thoughts of what might have happened to cause this…

“Ya’ll! Somethin’s gone wild outside! Theres nothin’ out there, whole worlds just gon’ poof! Alls we got is da castle now!” Yellow, alongside Green run into the clearing from much farther in the distance.

The news befuddles Flowery, no fountain and most of the world was missing, but they were fine… Once he was in a state to, he needed to find answers.

Without much time to protest, he was being lifted by the others with another sting of pain, being ushered inside the Flower Castle walls. Blue taking head as leader as best he can without Flowery’s direction. It seems answers would have to come later, his friends seemed more worried about his current state than anything about why they were still human. Though as hes lifted into the doors, he gets some insight, a dark sun that hung above them, appearing almost completely eclipsed, only light being a bright circle around the shape.

“I can’t help but be worried! Big sis isn’t anywhere! Her door is gone! Her stuff is gone! Those lightners better have put her somewhere nice or… or... else I’m gonna show ‘em what for!” Orange protests scampering back and forth the cafe as everyone takes a seat. Every room seems smaller now, as if the entire castle shrank to maybe half of it’s size, Blue’s stage room all but disappeared and joined with Yellow’s garden, though its not like they minded it, they could make do.

Again Blue tried to quell the situation while Flowery was on bed rest, placing a hand on Orange’s tiny shoulder, “Well. We can’t just sit idly by now, we do have to find some answers to this conundrum…”

Despite the joy of being human again, tension hung in the air from the lack of knowing how or why, but there was no intimidate danger so they couldn’t do much now. For now, they fell into a somewhat familiar rhythm to keep occupied, Flowery rested, Seth and Aqua scouted the new layout of the castle, Green cared for Flowery with Orange running errands, Blue and Yellow bounced between finding any lingering darkners that popped up and getting everyone settled.

Everything was falling into a peaceful pace almost, several hours passing when the world suddenly stopped.

The sun gone, the castle gone, the dark world, gone. Their brief revival whisked away again with no warning. Nothing but 7 flowers once again sitting in the back of a shop, planted close together under a single lamp.

“You think it worked Kris?” Susie grunted lifting a watering can. “I just hope it did, even if we can’t see it. They deserve to at least get to be human a little bit more…” She doused the planter in water, taking time to count out the seconds for each plant. Exchanging it for a chunky book on gardening from the library struggling but doing her best to read the directions.

Kris meanwhile just stares into the containers of the flowers silently, then up to the lamp above with a prismatic black disk of glass covering the bulb.
