Summary
Uchiha Sasuke returned to his hometown village. It's a different village than what he remembered where odd friendships, strange relationships, and secrecy have taken hold of Konohagakure.
While dealing with memories, nightmares, existential questions about legacy, honor, and heritage, Sasuke must deal with home and international politics, his conflicting feelings, as well as the shadows he cast, especially in Sakura by unintentional ignorance or active neglect.
"I’m sorry to say it this way, but you’re running out of time...‘Play at romance’ if you must," said Kakashi.
"I can certainly say: it’s not a time limit... you absolutely will have to ‘play at romance’ to recalibrate your relationship," said Tsunade.
"What does ‘to play at romance’ even mean for us? What even is 'recalibration?'" he wondered.

Everything she's ever done - the things she's changed for the better, her mistakes, the people she's met, her family...all of it over because of an enemy genin's particularly lucky shot.
They managed to hit the experimental seal work her target had been working on (it was very interesting). The kunai must have been made of chakra conductive metal, too, since the seal blew up on her and everything.
There was no time for her to escape. She's more than likely dead right now.

His plan might have worked if any other hobbit had discovered the babe and Konoha wasn't so hard-pressed to recover their stolen Kyūbi Jinchūriki.

Mizuki tricks Naruto into stealing the scroll. Iruka is not the one to save him; it's Sakura. Her parents had, in anger, forbidden her from going, as she must stay ladylike. Sakura stumbles on Mizuki's monologue and overhears the vile things he's saying to poor Naruto.
Also, she didn't graduate like him. Sasuke didn’t go because he was just so tired and lonely. He was nearby, brooding, and caught wind of this.
So, with Sasuke and Sakura's help (now they know why everyone fucking hates Naruto), they take a copy of the Scroll of Sealing in silent agreement.
They decide to ditch the village and train while traveling the world.
So when the village finally realizes that the last Uchiha, the Jinchuriki, and a civilian girl are missing after a whole month, it’s very confusing.
Now, Kakashi Hatake is tasked with tracking them, but he has no fucking clue where they went. How the fuck did non-genin, fresh off the academy kids who have never seen war and live in peacetime, manage to slip by this quickly and undetected?Or

Even now Sasuke had to fight off a smile at the memory. He couldn’t understand why. There was nothing funny about being a nuisance. A family full of police officers would tell you that. But Naruto seemed to have the power to make everything seem funny. He was like a lingering trace of warmth on a cold day.
A stray gust of wind flooded the compound making Sasuke shiver more aggressively. Sasuke focused his gaze on the spot where he had found his parents' bodies. The blood was still there.
