Summary
“Finn, I want you to meet Doc Hudson, otherwise known as the Hudson Hornet,” Mater announced loud and clear, his voice reverberating from the walls. Excitement and anticipation could be heard.
Finn looked at the man in front of him. He was taller, definitely older. The years plastered onto his face. His hair was silver-blue. Navy eyes were trustworthy and patient. Finn, the ever-good agent, thrust his hand out for him to shake. “Finn McMissile. British Intelligence.”
Hudson gave him a weary smile. It wasn’t welcoming, but it wasn’t unkind either. Finn understood why he didn’t shake his hand. “You can call me Doc. There’s no such thing as formality here in this town so you better get used to it.”
OR,
In which Mater really wants his two dads (Disclaimer: Not actual dads) to meet and he makes a “foolproof” plan to get them to like each other. Lightning thinks it’s a stupid idea, Sally and Flo are amused and the others watch on quietly as two disasters finally meet.

Summary
They finally get to the front door but Monty won't go inside.
He plants his feet, letting go of Doc's hand in favor of making two firm fists at his side like he's ready to fight some losing battle.
"I'll hitchhike." He warns quietly, "I'll walk."
And Doc look inside the half-opened door to his house. Cozy and warm. So clean and inviting.
Stargazing was meant to be the perfect way to end such a nice night. A great way to wind down to sleep.
Now he's got a drunk teenage threatening to run away from home.
"Kid," He sighs,"Hitchhike to where? Walk where? Where are you in such a damn hurry to go?"
Monty swallows back bile again, the back of his hand pressed against his lip as his face wrinkles in disgust at the taste. "Home." He chokes out.
Doc suppresses the urge to roll his eyes. "Great! Cozy Cone is right back down the hill you just tore up. Get your sorry ass-"
"No." Monty whines, interrupting, "No. I mean - I gotta go…home-home"
Oh. Shit.
or the one where Doc and Monty go on a road trip to Monty's childhood home and no one has a good time

Summary
He grimaced slightly. “Ugh, fine. You're going to say I told you so.”
A beat passed. It probably dragged on a lot longer for Lightning than it did for Doc. But then, the old man cracked a subtle smirk. “No, I was going to ask if you were okay.”
“You’re an asshole.”
“An asshole who was correct to warn you about skateboarding three days before a race,” he chastised, exhaling deeply. “Come on kid, let's get you up.”

Summary
Sarge has finally invited Lightning to his monthly cookout, and Doc has graciously tagged along. Everything that could go wrong, does.
—
“I’ve gotta get outta here,” Lightning whispers hurriedly to Doc. “I’m gonna throw-up.”At this, Doc looks alarmed. “It’s always a production with you…”
Lightning clasps his hands together. “Please, Doc. I’m begging you. He’ll kill me.”

Ramone saunters up from behind them, clearing his throat, Lightning clears space for him casually, and peers down the road in search of Sarge.
“Didn’t know he roped you guys into this too,” Ramone says.
“Oh, I didn’t sign up for this,” Doc grumbles. “Hot-shot here thought it’d be a good idea, and I just know it’s going to go south for everyone involved.”
“I’d feel bad if I backed out like Mater,” Ramone replies. “But I shoulda tried, man.”
Lightning knits his eyebrows. “Wait, this sounds like there’s some lore involved here.”
“Oh, yeah, man, tons. ” Ramone gives him an impartial smile just as Sarge and Fillmore pull up in sync. “Hey, guys!”
Sarge climbs out, looking them all up-and-down with a slight sneer. “Really? Shorts, Ramone?”
“What?” Ramone crosses his arms. “It’s hot out, man!”
“And there’s cactus and critters around, but sure, worry about a little sweat,” Sarge scoffs. “The rest of you— well done.”
Lightning glances up at Doc and shrugs. He didn’t realize this was going to be bootcamp.
“I thought you couldn’t make it?” Ramone directs to Fillmore, who’s leaning against his van.
“Nah, just wasn’t invited till Luigi and Guido got sick.”
Doc mutters something under his breath that Lightning doesn’t catch.
“Well, let's not be lollygagging now,” Sarge says, and ushers them into the vehicles.
Lightning crams into the backseat of Fillmore’s van with Doc, and quietly asks, “Why is everyone so serious?”
“You mean Sarge,” Doc corrects. “You’ll find out.”
“I dunno if I wanna.”
Doc just turns out the window, and Lightning takes that as a symbol for the conclusion of their conversation.
Setting up the camp went about as well as anyone expected: Ramone took a tent to the eye, and a cactus in the foot, but walked away with only a bruise and a scratch. Lightning and Doc battled with their own set-up, and while they worked well together, the tent was less inclined to be so kind.
Doc pats Lightning’s back. “Now you know.”
“You should have warned me,” Lightning complains, nearly dry-heaving as a result. “Oh my god, I feel sick. ”
“If I’d warned you, no one would have eaten his hotdogs, and then we’re all in trouble,” Doc laughs quietly.
Lightning rolls his eyes, but his attention falls back onto his plate.
He wasn’t going to eat that… but something would.
In one swift movement, he plucks the hotdog off the plate, and slings it over his shoulder. Doc watches in absolute bewilderment as the sausage takes a lengthy flight into the desert, only to plummet into some dry shrubs.
Slowly, he looks back at Lightning.
Lightning shrugs.
“That was fast, man,” Ramone comments, and the gleam in his eyes indicates he was watching the whole fiasco.
“Yeah… Compliments to the chef,” Lightning replies, giving Sarge another convincing grin.
