Summary
Eddie spots his mother first, standing near the living room with a glass of wine frozen halfway to her mouth. Her eyes track from Eddie's face to Buck's face to their joined hands, and Eddie watches her go through the five stages of grief in the span of two seconds.
Her right hand moves automatically, decades of muscle memory taking over as she touches her forehead, then her chest, then her left shoulder, then her right, her lips pressing together as she mutters what Eddie can only assume is a prayer for his immortal soul.
Across the room, Eddie catches Shannon's eye. She's standing by the fireplace with a drink in her hand and Chris at her side, and she looks like she's having to physically restrain herself from applauding. Her free hand is pressed over her mouth, shoulders shaking with laughter. When she catches Eddie looking she raises her glass in a tiny salute, eyes sparkling with mischief.
Chris, bless him, has no such restraint. His face splits into a massive grin and he turns to his mother and says, in a voice that is so loud it echoes, "Mom, you didn't tell me Dad's boyfriend was cool."
Or,
Eddie needs a fake boyfriend. Maddie's brother is happy to help.- Language:

Finger on the cursor, Buck types an a to start.
Google, in all its autocomplete glory, gives Buck some options. Four suggestions stack top to bottom in whatever order Google decides matters most on any given evening, and the four that come up under Buck's single letter are, in order:

american airlines
ammonia bleach mix
Buck stops chewing the inside of his cheek — which, honestly, he didn’t even realize he was doing.
That’s — huh.
That’s not what he was expecting at all.

Summary
“Look, when I was younger, I thought that if I discovered something important about myself, I would have some kind of revelation, something impossible to ignore.”
Eddie swallowed again, feeling his throat tighten more and more as the conversation progressed.
“It wasn't like that?”
Hen shook her head immediately.
“It was more like a kind of accumulation of small things or facts that had been hidden for years and that I decided to stop justifying.”
or; the fic where Buck asks, during a “quiet” shift, what their “hall pass” is and Eddie finds himself facing an existential crisis because of Ryan fucking Gosling.

Summary
“Don’t talk about Buck,” Eddie says. “He,”
There’s not much he can say without outing himself, so he stops short. Inhales. Exhales. Inhales. Exhales.
“Look,” Eddie says, firm, “Chris is my son. And I get to decide where we live.”
“Oh, Eddie,” Helena says, voice full of pity. “Please don’t force our hand.”
“Force your hand?”
“To fight for his custody.”
“What?” Eddie asks with quiet disbelief. His brain is in the process freezing completely, his veins ice cold.
He knows his parents don’t like him. He’s known that his whole fucking life. But this? This is too much. And worse, it’ll hurt Chris. Turn him into the same mess Eddie is.
“He needs stability and security. Something he clearly didn’t have until very recently. We’d been thinking about it ever since you got shot. Then he called us, and we’d fully decided but, you just let him go and we thought we wouldn’t need to. But now,”
Eddie’s breathing gets increasingly heavier until he collapses.
or
The Diaz parents Diaz parent and Eddie has a panic attack, so Buck drops everything and flies (not) straight to El Paso. They find their way home.
