Summary
Going into shed on a guls-forsaken starbase with a lot of strange Federaji and very few options was never going to be pleasant, Garak knew. But it might not have been quite so bad if Julian hadn't completely forgotten it was coming and left a week ago on the Defiant. Garak, of course, hadn't said a word. It was wartime, after all. There was nothing to be done.
And yet, he couldn’t help but see it as one more sign that Julian was slipping away from him.

Summary
Language is among Julian’s favorite pursuits, up there with tennis and medicine. Its combination of art and science and history and even math pulled him right in—an interdisciplinary craft, endless in measure. Linguistics was his favorite elective during Starfleet and xenolinguistics even more so.
This comes in very handy when the Universal Translators cut out. What can Julian say when no one understands him? (And what can he say when they do?)

“Doctor?”
Bashir smiled wildly as he fixed his eyes on Elim - he seemed almost gleeful. "There you are, Elim."
"Shouldn't you be in Ops? There's a yellow alert, isn't there?"
"I just wanted to make sure you were alright," Bashir said and stepped closer. Elim instinctively took a few steps back. "Or what you were up to, in any case."

Summary
“A thirty two point seven percent chance of survival? I call that insulting.” Garak’s pulse was racing. He turned his concentration to controlling his breathing.
“Don't take it so personally, Garak,” said Julian, in that soothing physician’s voice. He caged Garak in with his forearms again, setting to work with the tricorder once more. “It's strictly a matter of mathematics.”
“No, it's strictly a matter of our lives,” Garak shot back. Really, not his best work. The bay was large enough, but somehow this space was small and filled with Julian’s heat and his scent and Garak, who had hoped to develop some kind of immunity to it now that they were sharing quarters on the Defiant for the foreseeable future, found that its effect on him was only getting more potent. “You're not genetically engineered. You're a Vulcan.”
Really? That’s the best you’ve got? States’ honor, Elim. Get it together.
