To be honest, Grace did have his doubts about him.
When the new human first woke up, he punched Grace in the face and tried to run away. He didn’t speak for his first three days of being conscious. Not the best first impression.
Rocky, in the meantime, had one job. He was specifically tasked with building this new human a place to stay. Grace hadn’t made time for blueprints, too busy fumbling the situation that was his first real human in over fifteen years.
Grace didn’t realize ‘please build the new human a place to stay’ would be translated into ‘expand my home! the human will be living with me!’

What starts as a tumultuous relationship quickly shifts into something more as the two men realize that maybe all they need in order to figure out what's real is each other.

“That’s not Gideon,” he called to Kremy, whose heart fell into his shoes. “There’s some sort of outside influence causing him to do this. It seems he believes the three of us are his enemies.”
On the one hand, Kremy was relieved. If Gideon wasn’t in the pilot’s seat at the moment, it meant he was still in there somewhere, and he didn’t really want to kill them all. The camp is strangely quiet, it shouldn’t be a surprise but it’s still unnerving. The second they stepped off the bridge it was like waking from a dream as the chaotic fey magic released its grip. They’d been through this enough to know that none of them were in their right minds but still… an undercurrent of tension has remained that has them all walking on eggshells. Most of Kremy’s crew sit around the fire, enjoying their steaming bowls of gumbo with sincere (if quiet) praise and soft conversation. Most of them, with one notable exception who is missing… again.
