Summary
The first time Peggy Carter and Elizabeth Best cross paths, neither pay much mind to the other.
This is not entirely true. Or, it is true, perhaps, but not accurate.
The first time Peggy Carter and Elizabeth Best cross paths, neither suspect the occurrence is to have any significance in their lives to come.
A rare occurrence made rarer—they are both wrong.
In Reykjavik, or Riga, with a dead man who never died lying prone in an ambulance that is not an ambulance, information changes hands. Two spies contemplate each other, something between them neither will ever truly call friendship.
Elizabeth will not learn to define the word, to believe in the definition, until much later. Peggy loses and regains faith in such an idea throughout the course of her life, over and over.

Summary
It’d started three days ago, when May had gotten home late from a class and Phil’s napping brain had clocked a gap--a silence after the crunch of gravel in the driveway, that ought to be filled by the creak of the front door.
He’d gone out to find May standing braced against the hood of the car, looking irritated--and, somewhere beneath it, puzzled. She’d smiled a bit at him--his anxiety had immediately tripled--and gathered herself for a moment, walking carefully up the steps to join him.
“You good?”
She’d handed him the paper-bagged groceries she’d picked up on the way home. Another smile, a regular May smile. “Sure.”
He’d been in no way prepared for it. She’d gone down hard the next morning, crumpled awkwardly bare steps in from the front door.
In which Coulson loses at Risk, May loses at Wordle, Daisy collates data on the perpetual mystery that is May's media taste, and they all feel their feelings. Sometimes it takes things getting a little hard again to realize just how far you've come.

Summary
“We haven’t had enough time,” Daisy said softly, staring back at her screen as her Lighthouse room dimmed. She tried to memorize the way May’s eyes crinkled at the corners, the lines around her mouth; the way she looked exactly the same as she always had, even with every line of her gone softer. “I don’t—May, it’s only been—” she laughed, shaky, years blurring together in their warmth and recency.
“I’m not that old, Daisy.”
“I’m not saying you’re old!”
“Really? ‘Cause everyone, lately—”
“Nothing’s allowed to happen to you,” Daisy blurted, suddenly desperate. “You’re—unbreakable, May, you can’t—”
The way May stilled made Daisy’s heart stutter.
“Unbreakable, huh.”
(Or: You know how there's a part of you that still wants to believe in forever?)

Summary
Andy sighs, pulls another candy bar from the pocket of her coat, yanks on the wrapper with her teeth, and sets it on the hood beside her. Waits.
“C’mon, asshole,” she mutters. “I don’t have all the time in the world.”
“And that’s the gist of it, isn’t it?”
A woman walks out of the darkness to settle at her side. Andy doesn’t look at her. The woman picks up the candy bar with vague, serene disinterest; delicately, she peels back the foil.
“This doesn’t usually work unless I’m dead.”
“I’m told,” says the strange woman, very dryly, “it’s called a near-death experience.”
Andy nearly spits out her mouthful of chocolate.
(Or: when the oldest being alive becomes mortal, Death stops by for a chat. It goes about as well as you'd expect.)

Summary
She lands on one foot, then swings her heel around to meet his face. It’s becoming her signature move — the crowd is expecting it. They shout.
As she spins with it she sees the shine of their greasy faces, bills waving above heads, mouths opening wide to cheer for Lazarus!
The man hits the ground, and as she twists and catches herself her crucifix kisses her cheek.Bookmarked by Inkspinner

Summary
It’s not luck, but good quality manufacturing and a fat enough cheque to pay for it that produces unbreakable glass. Sheets of flawless glass as thick as a bike tire sandwiched around a secret, hair-width strip of polyvinyl plastic. And through the unbreakable, unscathed barrier, two little beady eyes stuffed into a furry face so plush it’s just begging to be bought and squeezed and loved.

Bookmarker's Notes
"They craft networks among Muggles and wizards alike: a woman hangs laundry, and a cat chases a grasshopper in the street. There are three pillowcases and two pairs of stockings, which means that two nights later there will be a truck, and she and Angeline will intercept it. A quick flick of a wand turns a box of grenades into a box of cricket balls, and Jacob pitches them into the cowpond. So it goes.
She dislikes the messiness of oblivating memories, but she can't simply allow Muggles to retain the memory of a cat turning into a woman in front of them. Despite her best efforts, though, folk tales of a spirit in the form of a kindly barn cat persist for a generation.
Well, it's not like anyone ever actually believes them."

Summary
Medicine had changed so much in their very long lives - machines that could photograph the body with veins lit like highways at night, hearts and pancreas and kidneys grown in labs, therapies to ease pain and nightmares and allergies of all things. It seemed both unfair and fitting that in the end it was morphine that kept the pain at bay, and she'd cracked jokes about laudanum and the terrible suspenders Nicky had worn that time in China while Booker tied the tourniquet and prodded for a vein.
