Soap notices that Ghost always smells of lavender, and seems to have an aversion to certain deodorant smells, and he sets out to figure out why. Along the way he changes his own deodorant and finds out that that gesture means a whole lot more to Simon than he could ever have thought it would. He learns more about his Lieutenant in the next few months than he has in the last nearly five years of working with him, finding out why such a small gesture meant so much to him and getting to know every part of Simon, the good, the scared, and the ugly.

"Say he wasn’t as much as tosser as most.”
“So you do like me.”
“I like you alive.” Ghost says, and Johnny grins. The fire crackles, and they both ignore it. Johnny leans in as Ghost reaches his hand to pass the bottle, and when their lips meet, it’s all blood and tequila. Good, they could probably pretend it wasn’t each other. Neither of them would, though.Or: in which Ghost and Soap never quite made it to Alejandro’s safehouse, only made it into the woods of Las Almas enough to stumble upon their own repression and a bottle of tequila, then later a one-woman homestead. Then, in which Ghost and Soap and one very damning woman enter what appears to be a love triangle. But a real one, you know? The one where everyone might want everyone, and no one is shy of a bit of threat, flirting, and gunsmoke to get it.
Multi-part story with mlm, f/m, and f/m/m. And at least a spatter of half-decent descriptions of rural Mexico, I'd hope.

You flinched at first — but he was warm, so warm.
“You are very far from home, aren’t you, Kleines Häschen?” he mused, honeyed words drawn out slowly as you relaxed into his palm. “Come, let me tend to your wound. Rest by my fire, just for a little while.”
The man scooped you up from the snow, unresisting. Sleep whispered sweet temptation as you were cradled to his chest, lulled by the blood loss and his steady steps. You gave in to the beckoning darkness, and allowed your heavy lids to close, like he said—
just for a little while.
