Summary
No child should cry silently. It means they know no one is coming to help them.
“Umino Iruka.”
“Hmm?”
“My name,” the Chuunin’s cheeks were pinked, his mouth crooked to the side. “I apologize for taking him without any warning, but I was just – I delivered paperwork for Sandaime-sama, the other week, and I found him crying.” He hugged Naruto, setting the book down. “There were no aides around, no staff members on hand, and he was crying silently.” Umino turned his head, his eyes closing as he pressed his mouth to Naruto’s temple. It was soft and fond, parental, and Kakashi’s heart thudded. “Children do not cry silently unless they know there is no attention coming, Hatake-san.”
He had done that, once upon a time. After his father’s burial, when there had been no one to hear him. No one to listen.

Summary
He woke up to fingers wrapping around his throat.
Cold fingers, hard as steel, a firm presence, a quiet threat, but not yet a lethal touch – a warning, a danger, a terror, but nothing so permanent as death. Another hand swept up his cheek to cover his mouth, a voice whispering in his ear. “If you scream for them, they will die the same way your parents did.”

Summary
Footsteps.
That was what he heard. There were footsteps at the front door.
After the last visit to his childhood home, he’d managed to scrape himself off the floor, pour himself into a taxi, and go back to his little cottage house. Now there were footsteps at the front door, hushed voices whispering back and forth. He recognized them, he was pretty sure, but his mind wouldn’t wake up enough to identify them properly. When he sat up, catching a glimpse of himself in the mirror, he winced.
He hadn’t had anything to drink, but he did look wrung out.

Summary
There was always something off about the flow of a dream.
The way it seemed to go too fast and then too slow and the way time dribbled past in eddies and waves and trickles. Reality distorted into seconds, minutes, days, hours, weeks – everything pushed together and then pulled apart again.
Sam sat up in bed, blinking a couple of times.
Reality was wrong.

Summary
He went to sleep in 2021, Ethan Winters dead, his daughter practically an orphan, her mother on trial for her actions while working with The Connections.
He woke up in 1998, shortly before everything fell apart. A police station full of living ghosts, joking and laughing and talking to him like they haven't been dead for over twenty years.
He was so tired.

Summary
He missed Konoha.
Training with Jiraiya was great. It was fun and good, and he learned new things every day. Once the old man had figured out his chakra nature and how to direct it, he learned new techniques that would help him survive. Things that would help him protect the people he considered family.
Stuff that would protect his friends.
With plans unfolding and people moving into position, Naruto is on the road with Jiraiya. Across the map, Itachi and Kisame are working on their own plans. At yet another point, Hidan and Kakuzu are working to make sure their lives fall into place. If everything goes the right way, they all get what they want.
A happy future, a better ending to their stories, and a man dead who threatened them.

Summary
Sent on a last-minute hunt while preparing to face the Devil himself, Dean and Sam meet some interesting people.
“So,” he sighed, flicking the edges of the papers. “Fake FBI badge, fake name, car full of weapons. That’s a lot of federal offenses and felonies in the making.”
He kept his mouth shut, letting the man talk. It took a lot of effort.
“Son, I’ve got a morgue full of corpses covered in goo,” the Sheriff sighed. “If it weren’t for that, I’d be sending your ass to jail. However, you’ve got a trunk full of items that I know are connected to the supernatural and I think you can help solve a problem my entire town is dealing with so that we don’t lose more people.” He looked up at Dean, his eyes narrowing. “I’m Sheriff Stilinski. For the love of God, please tell me you know how to deal with monsters.”

Summary
Hellboy stood up from the table when the meeting ended, gathering up the notes handed his way. Descriptions of the creatures, ugly little monsters from the sketches on the page, stared back at him when he glanced down. All teeth and claws, about the size of his stone hand. Faeries, in some sort of way, ones that would sooner kill than help.
Not a problem until they decided to move into a human city and try to take over. Not a problem until they moved in and tried to feed the children in the area. Not a problem until they’d been discovered doing that, someone panicked, and there was suddenly a rash of deaths and dismembered corpses.
He hated that sort of problem.

Summary
When he opened his eyes, dead as dust and rattling bones, Larry knew he’d done something to piss someone off.
Larry Johnson already knew that Sal Fisher was it for him. That was ancient history, by now. He'd been through the cult's manipulations of his mother, Sal's father, and everything else they had thrown at them. Now he's a ghost.
That is not the end of the story.
If he works fast enough, it won't be the end of Sal's story, either.

Summary
He had already been running behind the rest of his clan when he found the boy on the battlefield.
Due to circumstances, he knew who the boy was. He would have had to have been an idiot not to recognize Uchiha Izuna, laid out on the ground and bleeding to death. Tobirama reached for his sword, still a little clumsy in his hands despite how long he had already wielded it, and he stared at the Uchiha. He could sense another of his own clan nearby, heading for home, could feel their chakra in the air, and he knew they were likely the party responsible for the injuries draining the life from the other.
The Uchiha was still alive.
Tobirama watched him breathing, the way his chest struggled for air, his hand was clamped tightly to the wound that kept pouring out blood.
If he did not act, Uchiha Izuna would die.

But he knew when something wasn’t right.
Naruto sat at the dinner table, listening to the vampire talking to his parents, and lifted his head when something felt different. Something in the air shifted, the sounds muting for a second.

Summary
He had not told the entire truth when asked, not really. He had met Madara several times, gotten to know him – he had been the one to ask Madara to enter into the peace talks.
After that, when Madara had shut down, it had been impossible to get him to talk. Hashirama had taken blame upon himself – if he had not asked, Izuna might not have been cut down.
Or perhaps he would have been.
There was no telling, truthfully, not without knowing who had done the deed.
Hashirama welcomes Madara back into the world. They've been overdue for a conversation for a long, long time.
(Takes place between chapter 11 and chapter 12 of "The Road Of Life", the previous work in the series.)

Summary
“A mission?” Izuna frowned, his hands going to Tobirama’s chest. “On your own?”
“I am not a child, Izuna.”
“No, of course not,” Cutting off the touch of their old battle-ready anger, Izuna rolled his eyes. “But your brother sending you on your own seems unusual. That was all I meant,” he kissed the tip of Tobirama’s nose. “I meant no offense, lover.”
He watched the flicker and flare of anger calm in an instant. “Ah,” Tobirama nodded. “It is meant to be mostly a diplomatic mission; one he cannot undertake himself. With his new title, Madara insists that Hashirama cannot go running off to see to it that a scroll be escorted into the Hokage’s archives for a clan that wishes to join the new village.” He sighed, shivering when they pressed together, still naked. Izuna almost cackled, wanted to follow up on what could be gained by pressing even further, but with the mention of a mission…
He relented, kissing Tobirama one last time.
When Tobirama gets poisoned on a mission, Izuna is the only one who knows how to find the solution. It's a surprise to their brothers, of course, who didn't know about their affair.

Summary
Hiashi lifted his chin once more, alert, when there was a moment of silence. “Then perhaps you will allow me to take care of my nephew — as promised to my brother, a condition of his sacrifice – by seeing to his marriage. Now that he is of an age to be married, of course, he has a few prospects as something useful to the clan,”
“We do have a list of potential brides, suitable for such a member of the family. An orphan, taken in by his uncle, born to the branch family, of course we know brides who would bring honor and status—”
“Oh, I already have someone chosen,” Hiashi smiled. He was tired.
He’d been shown the truth of his actions, the error of his judgment. He had been given a chance to stare acutely into the width and breadth of his past and know, deeply and achingly, that it had been the wrong path to take.
“You…What?”
Hiashi stared back at his father, aware that he was pushing back against him for the first time in his life. Hinata had made a promise, one that she had brought to him. One that he intended to keep. “I have chosen someone for my nephew to marry,” he simply repeated it. “The Kazekage has already accepted the proposal.”

Summary
“You’re adorable,” Tobirama interrupted him, an eyebrow raised. He hadn’t even bothered to draw his sword.
“…What?”
“Either stop standing on things and being adorable while screaming at me,” the other eyebrow joined the first when Izuna sneered at him. “Or marry me and make it more of my problem.”
Izuna choked. “What?”
“Either stop getting in my face to yell at me while being adorable,” the Senju bastard had the gall to repeat it, somehow, and Izuna almost had to give him credit for that. He really almost did. He had to have done something to Izuna, however, because his face was burning and his hands were shaking. “Or marry me and make it my problem forever.” He crossed his arms over his chest, shrugging as if he hadn’t just suggested something impossible. “Your choice.”
