    Summary

“I forgive you,” Boromir says, just as grave as the captain before him, accepting his demotion to knighthood with far more grace than most would afford a too-bold babe. “An’ I dub you Sir ‘Rongil, so you must help protect nana. ‘Cos you’ve a real sword an’ can cut down real foes, until I have one, too, and can protect her better.”

So saying, he drives the point of the sword into the ground, and turns to face Finduilas, legs trembling a little with the effort to hold himself back from bouncing.

“No fear. No harm. Not while we’re here. So swear I.”

“So swear I,” Thorongil intones, after the fashion of the knights of old. Boromir turns back to him, taking both his hands to wrap them about the hilt of the toy sword, and for one selfish moment Finduilas is glad her son no longer faces her, that he might not see the tears spilling from her eyes.

    Summary

You wed the King of Rohan, a hero of the War of the Ring, and he adores you. But he is reluctant to speak of his feats of arms. You wonder if he is humble, or something more, until Edoras hosts a tournament.

    PREVIEW:
You asked him about his battlefield adventures, but he demurred, his granite-etched brow growing grim.
“You are such a precious companion,” he said, “and this night so full of life and hope. Why speak about such things?”
You glanced at your plate, the golden edge glinting in the firelight.
“I simply wish to know,” you said.
He gestured to a servant to bring more wine.
“Another day,” he said. “For my feats are storied. But at times, they are not the stories I wish to tell.”

    Summary

The King of Rohan is young, but already a legend in the War of the Ring. But Lothír, the youngest Prince of Dol Amroth, is preoccupied with the King for other reasons. Why, for instance, does his strange, smooth chin seem incapable of growing a beard? And why do Lothír’s hands long to reach out and touch his round, moonlike face?

    PREVIEW:
“Yes, they call me the Knight of the Flowers,” he said, tightening his clasp still further.

The King grinned, and did the same.

“Yes,” Erchirion cut in. “When Lothír was expected, our parents so wanted a girl that they had thought of no masculine names. They even heard from a soothsayer that they would have their long-awaited daughter. So when he was born, they thought of nothing better than to make Lothíriel into Lothír. But it seems the name has been a blessing. From a young age he fought anyone who dared to call him Lothíriel, or Princess, and the only man who truly bested him is our beloved Elphir.”
