What was that?
"Nick?" Elle puts her hand on his forearm, the warmth jolting him back to his body, but he's looking out of his eyes like they're windows. He blinks them into focus, glances at her. She's wearing golden earrings in the shape of doves, and they glitter in the sun. "Yeah?"
"Are you alright? I called your name like, five times?"
"I-"Are you alright?
He thinks so. He doesn't know what's wrong.
"S-sorry." He manages, after sitting there, struggling for words for a whole minute. "I must've blanked out." He smiles, but it takes effort he doesn't have, and his eyes feel too watery. Elle's hand squeezes, and then falls back to her side. "You can talk to me, you know that- right? Whatever's going on, we can talk."
He registers the offer like he registers wind, and breathing and waking up. Mundane grey. Nothing sticks out, and nothing is his own. He nods anyways.
