Jaskier has zero intention of sharing the degrading experience of getting tortured. Ever. He’ll bury the memories and someday they’ll be as scabbed over as Caingorn was.
Which had been completely, absolutely, fine. And the only reason that wound is bleeding a little now is because fucking Geralt came out of nowhere—after the most humiliating experience of his entire life—and reopened the fucking thing. But that’s fine because he’ll leave and return to the terror of his smuggling work and forget about Geralt all over again. There’s nothing hard drink and the constant danger of execution won’t get his mind off. Because there’s something therapeutic about fearing for one’s life that makes anything not of immediate concern go away.
So yes, things were just fine before Geralt showed up.
Two years post-Caingorn, Geralt rescues Jaskier from prison and sends him with Ciri to Kaer Morhen. However, Geralt suspects Jaskier is hiding serious trauma.

Jaskier gets jumped by a bunch of bandits, who happen to be so dumb as to stab him with an ancient artifact. When he wakes up, the bandits are slaughtered, and Jaskier has a new hunger. When Jaskier wakes up, the light is uncommonly bright to his eyes, and he has to squint against it. He’s not sure he remembers going to sleep the previous night, and briefly accuses himself of gulping down the bottle of Toussainti wine he’d filched from the inn, leaving a few crowns in its place.He rubs his hands over his face, and realises that as he does so, the strange metallic scent that hangs in the air gets stronger. When he pulls his hands away to look at his palms, he stiffens. There are red stains on the skin, some of it dried and flaking in the creases.
It’s very definitely not wine.

Summary
Yes, Jaskier knew about the rumours of a new Warlord in the Northern Kingdoms – he would have to be living in a cavern not to know about it. Standing between Nilfgaard and the Lion Cub of Cintra was a Witcher whose adopted child was the last heiress of Cintra. He was not particularly worried about it though, after all he was far from being involved in any of this from Oxenfurt.
His only interactions with Witchers consisted in sleeping with one particular Witcher for money, and Geralt was smarter than to get drawn into that particular kind of problem.
(It will turn out that Geralt did not get drawn into trouble but initiated it [Of course he did], that Jaskier is now up to his neck in it and would not be left alone [Hello fucking Rience] and that his family still did not give a damn about his wishes or even his physical condition as long as he could serve their interests [a disinherited Lettenhove, even with injured hands, could still be useful as a concubine to a man who had already been seeking his services for years]).
As Geralt would say so eloquently: Fuck.

Please allow me to withdraw my prayer, no one needs to die,” Jaskier says shakily, and even though there is fear in the bard’s heart for his own life, largely there is regret and horror that he asked for Valdo’s death.
The demigod sighs softly, going down to one knee in front of the mortal, and very gently tilting Jaskier’s face to look up at him with a gloved finger under the bard’s chin. The witcher tries to make his stern countenance a gentler one and offers the man a small but sad smile as he murmurs in his gravelly baritone, “That’s not how this works, Jaskier. I can…set aside your request, as it were, but it doesn’t just go away. A prayer made must be answered.”

The flawless ease with which Jaskier lands the job should be his very first clue that the whole thing is a bad fucking deal.
But, never one to look a gift paycheck in the mouth when it seems his indie music career will never take off, Jaskier signs right the fuck up when he walks in and is inexplicably offered the head bartender position at The Medallion.
Jaskier does not consider for a moment that he is actually qualified for it. Sure, he has experience, five years bartending in Oxenfurt before his recent move to Blaviken is nothing to sneeze at, but he has no actual managerial expertise.
Churning out shots, shaking mixed drinks and pulling pints at lightspeed is not something that is intimidating to Jaskier, but being expected to do so while also taking responsibility for managing the two other bartenders on staff is not Jaskier’s forte.
Still, after just over three weeks at his new job, Jaskier is cautiously optimistic that he has indeed, somehow, been able to fake it until he makes it.
That is, until the night that the pub's real owners come to visit, and Jaskier gets his first look at the Wolves who run this town.
