“Hardly feels like hiding from a party without the Coruscant smog, doesn’t it?” she says, conversationally, coming to stand next to the younger woman.
“I’m not quite as used to it as you are, Aunt Mon,” Leia replies, and it’s as light as the question had been, but there’s something to it that makes it feel off. “After three decades of it, you must be part smog at the molecular level.”
Mon can’t help but laugh at the jibe; Leia’s witty tongue is and has always been a wonder to behold.
The pair settle into silence, gazing out into the darkness where the lanterns don’t quite reach. It’s peaceful, Mon thinks, but she knows that Leia hadn’t come out here just to stare into the darkness. Or maybe she had, in a more metaphorical sense. The other woman had been off for long enough, though probably an amount of time better measured in hours than days, that Mon’s maternal instincts had picked up on it, a small detail that her subconscious mind had refused to ignore despite having precious little time to do anything about it.

Post-Star Wars: A New Hope. A missing scene between Mon and Leia -- family is a complicated thing.

After their return from the Shi's stronghold, the Moon Prince and the daughter of Kan Lakan has been summoned by the Emperor.
The Emperor is glad to have seen his brother finally step out of Jinshi the eunuch's shadow and into the light of his role as the Moon Prince.
His Majesty is also relieved to learn that Kan Lakan's daughter has been returned safe and sound.But he has learned of the unnecessary risks his brother took to find Maomao himself, and that does not pleases his Majesty.
Thinking it would appease his brother and could go back on his words later on, Jinshi blurts out that he needed to find Maomao himself because he planned on making her his consort. Put on the spot, thinking that she could get out of it later on, Maomao confirms.
The Emperor give them one week to make it official.
And so, Maomao returns to the inner-court. As the Moon Prince's Consort, this time.
