You see, Hollander had always had pretty shit eyesight. As a young teen, he had brushed off his blurred vision and frequent migraines for far too long, fearing his parents would disprove of the development. Instead, fortunately, after months of Shane’s handwriting showing no signs of improvement, and his hockey skills, despite being mostly governed by instinct, were neither bettering nor worsening, his parents urged him into an optometrist appointment.
Only to find out their son’s eyesight was... less than adequate. Presbyopia, to be exact.
Since then, and following the berating from his mother about hiding his struggles from them before his father awkwardly steered him towards the stacks of display glasses, Shane had chosen his first ever pair of glasses.
OR.
Shane breaks his glasses and contacts and won't admit he needs replacements. Rozanov helps him get those replacements, which totally isn't an excuse for a shitty date.
OR.
When your "rival" and secret hook-up, who you not-so-secretly have a crush on, takes you to the opticians to get new glasses and contacts instead of having sex with you at your condo.

Back in Canada after the Olympics, March, 2014, Shane isn't handling the breakup that wasn't well. He finds the only place that he can sleep in is the recently completed investment property, for no particular reason.
Meanwhile, on their last game before playoffs, Ilya casually walks through the city streets since he has no other plans and happens to walk by the condo on accident and is totally normal about the fact that the lights are on and someone is up there despite them not having contact since they've been back.
It's fine. Everyone is fine.
