Summary
Shattering the ruby had some far reaching consequences, and in one universe that might have meant nothing at all, but a change in timeline means that Dream ends up going to his meeting with Hob completely and utterly high. Hob finds himself comparing the experience to corralling a drunk friend at a party when they want to talk to everyone.
Except that friend is a solemn immortal who’ll tell you he likes the taste of your dream.

Summary
The meeting in the pub lasts longer than either of them expect, and Dream lets slip a couple of vague facts that give Hob more information about his friend than the previous six centuries put together. He learns that he’s something of a king (which isn’t a surprise) and that he missed their appointment because he was trapped somewhere (which is). The rest is cryptic and reluctant, but when Dream implies that everyone he’d ever known had either assumed he’d abandoned them or been too busy to come help him well—
Furious doesn’t quite cover it.
AKA: What to do when your mysterious friend who might also be a god doesn’t realise they feel betrayed.

“Chimneys,” Morpheus answers, bland.

“Is it dangerous, this task of yours?” Johanna asked, her gaze fixed on Morpheus. The glint in her eyes was not from fear or trepidation, Hob noted with mild interest. He had seen this look before, on the face of young sailors and fellow bandits in the forest. She was hungry for something. As for what that was, he could not hazard a guess.
Morpheus looked grave, his mouth pressed into a thin frown. The fingers of his right hand made a twitching movement, as if he wanted to reach out to Hob but decided against it. “Yes,” he said after a moment. “Extremely so.”
(Or - Morpheus invites Hob alongside Lady Johanna to undertake a task in which he cannot involve himself directly - a family affair. Whether or not they succeed admirably will be a matter of perspective.)
A story of pushing boundaries; of learning to die and choosing to live; of finding out if love is stronger and more enduring than fear.
