Summary
We all know how the "This is Happening" episode began, right?
- Ed told Stede that he was thinking about leaving the Revenge.
- Stede was frantically trying to think of a way to stop him when Roach interrupted to report that they'd run out of oranges. This was bad, because they needed oranges on account of the Swede's teeth falling out from scurvy.
- Stede set off with Lucius to get more oranges. Instead, he returned with a treasure map that he'd bought from some woman.
This story is about that woman. Who is she? Just a random con artist? Or, maybe, someone we happen to know pretty well?
Let's find out!

Summary
“Please, Nanny!”.
“For the hundredth time, Master Stede, the answer is no.”
“I’m not asking you to pay for them! I can pay for them! I’ve still got my birthday money that my grandparents sent me!”.
“That’s not the point, Master Stede. If I were to help you buy those books, and your parents found out, I’d lose my job. You know what they think of such things.”
Stede knew, all right. He’d had his parents’ opinion of whimsical distractions like toys and art supplies and storybooks drummed into his head for most of his ten-year existence. But I have to have those books, he thought with desperate longing. I simply have to.
*****
At one point, Rhys said that he thought Stede’s favourite song would be “The Rainbow Connection”:
Have you been half asleep, and have you heard voices? I’ve heard them calling my name. Is this the sweet song that lures the young sailor? The voice might be one and the same.
This story tries to explore that yearning for more that I think Stede felt from an early age.

Summary
“Ed, what on earth is the matter? Why are you going all judge, jury and executioner on me?”.
“Because of the way you’re acting!”. Ed didn’t mean to shout, but he was getting seriously upset. “I gather that she’s rich and upper crust, but you’re the richest and most upper crust bloke around, so why the fuck are you kissing her arse?”.
Stede reddened, and he gave Ed an incredulous glare. “How can you ask me that? Do you think I want to demean myself?”.
“I’d like to think not, and yet here we are, so why are you doing it?”.

Uh-oh, is there trouble in Paradise? (Spoiler: no. At least, not for long.)
Anyone who's seen Project Hail Mary will know that Ryan Gosling wears a deliciously cuddly-looking sweater in it. The catch is that the sweater isn't available for purchase - the only way to get one is by buying the kit and knitting it yourself. Two years ago, I wrote a story called "A Stirring Yarn" in which Ed and Stede created a knitting company, and I thought "What the hell - I'll bring my two fandoms together."

Summary
It began as a blind item in a gossipmonger website called Hush Hush.
Now hear this, haters and hangers-on.
Helen Hendricks, the site’s owner, always started her posts that way, and she always tried to incorporate as many “h” words in her posts as possible. She thought that doing so made her sound cool and quirky. The minions who worked for her had a different opinion, but they wisely kept it to themselves, having seen firsthand how their boss reacted when someone dared to disagree with her. (It wasn’t pretty.)
Which hunky hockey superstar was seen playing a different kind of hockey – the tonsil kind – with a taboo honey in a hidden alleyway outside a hopping hotspot in February?

Summary
Three-quarters of the way through Heated Rivalry (the book), Ilya asked Shane whether he'd ever been with anyone else. It turned out that he had; a man in Mexico, years before. This is how I think that encounter might have gone.
Folks who've read my other works know that I mostly write about Our Flag Means Death, and this story owes a little bit to that fandom. Nothing major, and you don't have to have watched OFMD. I based some of my OC's on that fandom, is all. They are as follows:
Ward
Based on Taika Waititi, who played Ed in OFMD. Picture Ward without the headband and with longer hair.
Diego
Vico Ortiz, who played Jim.
Jake
Will Arnett, who played Calico Jack.
Cobb
Rhys Darby, who played Stede.

Summary
Ilya's heart shouldn’t be pounding at the prospect of having Shane in his arms once again. And yet, it was.
When Ilya exited the club, he saw Shane inside a sensible car—a blue Jeep. Seconds later, the car was skirting off the gravel road. Ilya tried his best not to be disappointed, or hurt, but managed neither.
(Or Alt. post-club scene from Ilya's POV. He finds Shane's car pulled on the side of the road. They talk.)

Summary
Ed should have everything he's ever wanted. He's finally trying to make it out of his life as legendary organized crime boss Blackbeard, but learning who Ed is after decades of being Blackbeard is harder than he'd expected. Meanwhile, Stede should be happy, but after coming out he's felt stuck in a rut, waiting for life to catch up with his dreams. When people from Ed's old life start to catch up with him and Stede accidentally gets involved, they discover that maybe they can help each other find the missing pieces they've been looking for.
A fast-burn where Ed and Stede get married right after they meet, it takes a bit longer for them to realize they've fallen in love, and they learn a lot about themselves along the way.

Summary
"What's on your mind, Stede?"
"It's just… well, it's rather hard to believe, isn't it?" Stede says.
"What, that Thomas and Maria are snogging already after he left her behind? It's a romance novel, Stede. It's not supposed to be realistic. You've gotta suspend your disbelief a bit, man."
"No, it's not that. It's just… Kissing. All of the romance novels make it out to be this huge, world-changing, earth-shattering experience. And it's just a bit silly, is all."
Ed swallows. "I dunno. It can feel really nice, y'know. With the right person."
Or, Stede confesses that he's never really seen the appeal of kissing before. What is a good co-captain to do but offer his own lips for the taking?
