Summary
Sometimes a person is connected to another through their dreams. They don’t always end up meeting in the waking world, but when they do the relationships vary greatly: some formed romantic bonds, some formed platonic bonds, and some would try to kill each other. Some people have claimed that they’re connected to someone from a different time, be they someone from the far future or a famous historical figure.
Ryland wasn’t sure he believed those claims. The person he was connected to clearly did, but Ryland was pretty sure he was making everything up. After all, Simon also claimed that all of the stars and planets were gone, which was just impossible.

Among the other symptoms — ugh, scurvy sucks — he begins to have odd recurring dreams of an island in a sea of blood, with nothing but a single tree standing upon it. He opens his mouth to answer, but nothing comes out. He doesn't know what words to use.
Who am I?
Why doesn't he know the answer to that?
After Grace awakens from his coma and begins regaining his memories of Earth, other memories emerge as well. Ones about a dying tree, the black void of space empty of stars, and a man named Simon.
