Gepard had made peace with having no soulmate. In the familiar order of 00:000:00:00:00 (years, days, hours, minutes, seconds), Gepard saw marks ticking around him every day of the warming spring. Rolled-up shirts worn on too-hot days led to many exposed wrists. Romantic indications on the left, platonic on the right for those right-handed, and the inverse for those who worked with their left. He barely registered them anymore because he had no want left in him, no yearning. A soulmate was simply not in the cards for him as someone born without a timer.
So, here he sat in the pottery shop five blocks from his city apartment when he overheard a conversation that changed the course of his life.

Throughout most of his life, Licorice Cookie had only shown loyalty to those who could provide him with respect. Just a smidgen of recognition, that was all he could ask for. But alas, that respect was unfairly difficult to find- to the point he started to believe he wasn’t deserving of such a thing.
Affogato Cookie was intent on proving him wrong- after all, without Licorice’s help, he wouldn’t have the Dark Cacao Kingdom wrapped around his finger right now. He owed that cookie ever so much, and he intended to repay the necromancer handsomely- and we’re not talking about gold here.
And so, with this mutually beneficial relationship, Licorice would receive the praise he deserved so much from the new king. The only aspect of this arrangement Affogato wasn’t quite sure about, was whether or not Licorice would agree to be more than just a political asset…
