Summary
Movement near the door draws his attention. He tilts his head, smiling softly when he sees Derek standing in the doorway, holding a tray filled to the brim with healthy foods and a big glass of orange juice.
"Good morning, pretty boy," Derek whispers, walking over to his side of the bed. He sets the tray down on the side table, helping Spencer prop himself up against the headboard. Spencer's heart flutters in his chest as Derek makes sure to support his back with many, many pillows.
"Good morning." Spencer rasps, wincing as the action scratches at his throat.
"Oh, baby…" Derek murmurs, laying his hand across Spencer's forehead as he situates himself on the edge of the bed, "You sound horrible."
or: Spencer is sick. Derek takes care of him.

"NO!" Spencer shouts, his voice cracking as he cuts Derek off, "Derek, you—you need to leave, you need to—to go, I can't—" His mouth waters as his senses pick back up on the tantalizing smell of blood, and he whimpers, "I can't— I won't hurt you, just—just go, just go before I—"
Derek pushes forward, presses down on Spencer side again, his hand stained crimson. "Spencer, what!? No, I'm not—I'm not leaving you to bleed out, what the hell are you talking about?"
"Derek, please—" Spencer begs, but his pleas fall on deaf ears.
He can't do this. His restraint is splintering, cracking down the middle, and he could see it, see the cut on Derek's neck, see the crimson blood slowly trickling down his skin, and he needs it, he needs it so badly—
or: Spencer has had many secrets. This is his most terrifying one.

Summary
This series started out as a place to stash prequel ficlets that were intended to be brief flashbacks/asides in a sprawling, unposted, in-progress Bucky recovery fic. But then the recovery fic's backstory got overly complicated and grew a narrative of its own. I cut the narrative off, but two more took its place. Go figure.
(And the ficlets... all turned out to be stories. Again, go figure.)
There are definitely tie-in/continuation shenanigans throughout this series, and the individual stories will be referenced by the aforementioned WIP, but each story of the series should largely be readable on its own. Pieces will be posted as they are polished up, probably out of chronological order. Each one will have at least one timestamp inside, though, and often several.
