Summary
Okhema was stifling. He could still smell the flames and charred flesh, feel the dust settled in a thick layer over his skin. There wasn’t an inch of the city he hadn’t spilled innocent blood on. This new world wasn’t meant for him, and everyone knew it. He could see it in the other Heir’s eyes, the poorly-veiled pity. The thin excuses for check-ins, the worried glances they would give each other when they thought he wasn’t looking. He would have been angry, but he didn’t think that was something he could feel anymore. It had been everything for too long, and now there was no kindling left to draw from. Just emptiness. The express had departed 71 days ago, and Phainon had begun to realize he wouldn’t be there to see it’s return.
He tried. He had tried so hard for her.

Any chance of a smooth recovery gone, Stelle pressed her hand against her chest dramatically even as she felt her cheeks flush. Was she smiling?
“Himeko! How could you frighten an injured woman like that? I could have died.”

“Colonel?” Al asked, surprise quickly turning to suspicion. “Wait, did Brother get himself into trouble again?”
Roy chuckled slightly. “No, not this time.” His tone got more guilty and he continued with a sigh, “This time, it was my fault. I snapped at him and said something I shouldn’t have and he stormed off. I was going to drive him back but he didn’t really want to be in my company after that, and I don’t blame him. Anyway, I just wanted to warn you he might not be back for a while…you know how he gets when he’s angry.”
“Boy do I,” Al replied, with the amount of tired exhaustion that came with having to talk his brother down at least three times a day.

Three sounds pierced his focus in quick, terrible succession. First came a choked gasp that sounded distinctly non-borisin followed by a sharp, high-pitched sound of pain, and most damning of all, the unmistakable clatter of a metal bat against the stone floor. Unable to resist the terrible sinking feeling in his stomach, Dan Heng whipped around to find Stelle suspended in the air by a blade piercing through her stomach. Before he could even make a sound something slammed into his back and sent him straight to the ground, his spear ripped out of his hand. Something heavy put pressure on his back, keeping him on the floor. It didn’t matter.
Desperately he reached out towards the gray-haired girl, seeing her blood splatter to the floor several feet below. “Stelle! Stelle-”

And all Mydei wanted was to live out his quiet life in his quaint cottage in the woods with his animals. Far away from the angels and their business.
Until one crashed into his backyard.

Phainon did the only thing possible in such a situation: He panicked.
“Uh,” he said, because clearly his eloquence had abandoned him during one of the cycles, “yes?”
// OR, circumstance leads to the heirs thinking Phainon only lived through thirty-three cycles. Rather than correcting them on this, Phainon doubles down and decides this is the new narrative he'll go along with so as to avoid worrying them too much.

Alhaitham inhaled slowly, allowing Kaveh’s scent to envelop his senses as his body tingled with something unfamiliar - tense and anticipatory. It was as though the vein beneath Kaveh’s soft skin was calling out Alhaitham’s name, beckoning him in with a powerful lull like a siren’s song.
Kaveh didn’t flinch as the tips of Alhaitham’s fangs came to rest hesitantly on his throat, and with one final, resolute breath, he gave in. Thumb caressing the other side of Kaveh’s neck as he held him in place, Alhaitham punctured his skin with a gentle bite.
