"If you knew how it would end, would you continue to pursue it?"
Civil unrest had once upon a time been rabid and only died down when Piltover utilized chemical warfare. Treated like dirt and figuratively buried six feet under, Zaunites are afflicted with the Gray. If the air was not dense and difficulty for them to breathe, the chemical exposure, courtesy of the topsiders, Zaunites now grow parasitic brambles of flowers in their lungs.
Shortened life spans and only a myth of finding their fated pair, again the question is asked, "Why persist?"
Or in other words, Arcane JayVik with Hanahaki and maybe a spin or two.

Summary
After the destruction of the hexcore and the end of the civil war between Piltover and Zaun, Jayce Talis moves to a remote coast, far from the noise of the City of Progress, and there he begins a new life — simple and quiet.
In a wooden house that he renovated and restored himself, he learns to breathe in rhythm with the sea. His days are filled with fishing, repairing old nets, walks along the beach, and occasional trips to a nearby town. To both the world and his loved ones, he is dead.
However, one night, during a violent storm, the silence of his new world is once again filled with a presence, and the solitude is broken. The next morning after the storm, on the seashore, Jayce finds an injured triton entangled in a torn net and seaweed.

More than a slave bound to someone else’s will.
They had pulled him from the mines because of his mind, because he could build something great. But if he didn’t escape,it would all be for nothing.
That night, sitting alone in his small room, he made his decision.
He had to run.
He thought for hours until he remembered.
The workshop. It had a second exit. A hidden door.
If he could get it working again without drawing attention, he might slip out without ever touching the front gate.
But he couldn’t do it alone.
He needed Sky—the only person in that house he could trust.
Maybe she could help him. Maybe she could get him what he desperately needed: proper clothes.
Because even if he made it outside, he wouldn’t be able to move freely.
The marks on his wrists, the wounds across his body, the torn clothes… everything about him screamed "slave."
If a guard saw him, he’d be arrested on the spot and sent straight back to his master.
His only chance was to leave under cover of darkness, hidden in the shadows, and run—fast—toward Zaun.
Once there, he could disappear.

When Viktor finally asks why Jayce stayed behind inside the Anomaly with him, Jayce stares at him as though he’s supremely disappointed by the question— as if Viktor has betrayed his own brilliance by asking something so irredeemably stupid. “How could I not? We’re partners.”
Partners, Jayce calls them. Not for the first time, Viktor wonders: Partners in what?

Or: Jayce and Viktor survive the Hexcore, a blizzard, their own bodies, sharing a bed and all the things they’re too afraid to say. Slowly, they put themselves back together— piece by stubborn piece.

“What am I going to do?” Jayce sighs, letting Viktor toss the blanket over him.
“About?”
“Being bad at sex,” Jayce grumbles.
“You could always practice,” Viktor suggests off-handedly. “Perhaps if you became well acquainted with the pleasure then you could hold yourself back more when having intercourse.”
Jayce scoffs. “Who would practice having sex with me though? No one would want to do that.”
Viktor swallows thickly.
Do not do it.
Do not say it.
Do not even suggest it.
“I could help you,” Viktor offers._______________
When Jayce stumbles into the lab one night drunk and frustrated, he confides in Viktor that he struggles with having sex, particularly when it comes to lasting during intercourse. Viktor offers to help his partner anyway he can, and the two come to the conclusion Jayce should practice having sex.

“… incinerated my prototypes,” he is saying as Viktor watches him; half-conversational, half-explanatory. “A few times, actually, by now. It’s like cat and mouse: I make them, they incinerate them … I don’t think they ever realised I had any other crystals or they’d definitely incinerate those, too.”
“Bastards,” Viktor says, seriously.
Jayce grins up at him again. “Yeah,” he says, “bastards. The whole lot.”
They look at each other oddly, both blinking. Then Jayce grins again, as though he is in on some sort of great joke that only the two of them are privy to. For the first time in a very long time, Viktor feels very aware of his mask standing between the world an his face.
Perhaps the cooling system is clogged again. He feels oddly warm.
Or: Zaunite shut-in Viktor hides in his lab and behind his mask, until a tipsy Academy drop-out stumbles into his life on a reckless gander into the Undercity. Something blooms.
