I came here with a mysterious pain in my stomach that started randomly one night and would not go away. I chose Ptmc because it was the closest option and almost instantly regretted it when I arrived in the waiting area. The entire room was packed, all seats occupied, several big families hogging most of the space. Only one receptionist was on duty so even the check in process took forever. I was waiting for 2 to 3 hours before I got taken back to see a nurse, then had to wait another 45 minutes before an actual doctor saw me. The issue turned out to be a gallstone which they fixed quickly and gave me a treatment plan for, so that was good. Overall a decent hospital in terms of medicine but huge problems with understaffing and wait times. Definitely not a place to go if you have anything else to do that day.

this place SUCKS the service is so slow and the lady at the front desk was not helpful i had to wait 4 hours just to be told that i was a low priority case and stuck back in the waiting room. AVOID this place. next time I’m going to presby.

I have never left an online review in my life but I have to share the ordeal I went through at this hospital. I got to the waiting room, checked in, got a seat. It wasn’t too crowded and I felt okay (I had a fever but not that serious). Fifteen minutes later I was still waiting, okay, that’s fine. It’s a busy hospital. Five minutes after that I was reading a magazine (they only had back issues of Cosmo, pretty bad in itself) and suddenly A PIECE OF THE CEILING FELL DOWN ONTO MY HEAD. I think it was some kind of plaster. Hard impact, lots of white dust as you can see in the photos below. I was too dizzy to speak for a few minutes. In the end it did get me to a doctor pretty quickly, but I can’t believe this happened at all. They told me this is the first time it’s ever happened…yeah right.

This place is unbelievable. I posted a review about my traumatic experience here a couple months ago when I sustained a head injury IN THEIR BUILDING due to some kind of maintenance fault and they responded to my generously self-restrained message with a form reply that’s the exact same as their replies to every other review. Clearly they don’t care at all about their clients. Beware of PTMC.

It has come to my attention that the party from the PR department who is responsible for the management of PTMC’s online reviews has been providing a subpar performance. All of our reviews are valued feedback from customers and it is unacceptable to simply copy and paste our previous replies in answer to newly posted reviews.

This hospital isn’t the worst I’ve ever been to, but there are some definite issues that I noticed during my visit. The wait time is absurdly long, which I’ll put down to a staffing shortage rather than a lack of efficiency. True, nursing shortages are a nationwide problem right now, but it’s still very annoying to sit in a waiting room for three and a half hours just to get your vitals taken. Also, the front desk workers are not very sympathetic or helpful when you try to talk to them. However, I do sympathize with the staff overall because I know it can’t be easy working under conditions like this. Hopefully the management will help them out.

This place is absolutely horrible. My wife stayed overnight for monitoring. The doctors took care of her fine. I waited with her for hours. Then I got hungry and went to the cafeteria. MISTAKE! I have never in my LIFE had such a disgusting sandwich. The bread was dry and the tuna was tasteless. What even is happening back in that kitchen? Thanks for taking care of my wife but I would leave zero stars if I could solely because of the poor food quality. Do better PTMC.

Somebody needs to call the health department in for a full inspection of this place. I was treated here a few months ago for a concussion and I overheard one of the nurses saying there were rats in the building. I was prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt as it could have just been gossip but then I actually SAW A RAT run across the floor of the wing where I was staying. This is unacceptable and I can’t believe that no one has called them out on it yet. PTMC HAS RATS.

I visited PTMC because I was in Pittsburgh for a conference and had an unexpected allergic reaction. Once I got to the ER, I was put in a waiting room with nearly 100 other patients and told that my symptoms “weren’t urgent.” Tons of people who arrived after me somehow got to jump the line and go right in. Not sure what that’s about but I’m very unimpressed with this place.

Hi Mal, we told you at the time of your visit that your allergic reaction was strictly topical which means that you weren’t in any immediate or serious danger. There is no “line” in the ER, we treat patients in order of need. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Although the wait times here can be a bit of a pain, I have to give PTMC credit for their excellent staff. I am particularly impressed by Dr. Shamsi, who is familiar with my condition and always makes sure that I have everything I need during my hospital visits. Also, it’s awesome that her daughter seems to be working here now too as a student doctor! We need more talented physicians like this. Who says nepotism has to be a bad thing?

went in because i had weird knee pain and swelling. tell me why i sat in the waiting room for four hours. FOUR HOURS of my life. four hours that could’ve been spent doing something actually enjoyable. talking to my family. hanging out with my friends. playing video games. getting a slice from pizza lupo. honestly sticking forks in my eyes would’ve been more enjoyable. four hours of waiting, only for the “doctor” to give me a few tylenols and tell me to ice and elevate my knee. I’d give them zero stars if i could.

Hi PJ, I’m sorry to hear that you had such a negative experience in the waiting room. For mild to moderate swelling without other symptoms, ice and elevation is the best treatment plan. I also feel legally obligated to ask that you please never stick forks in your eyes, as you could damage your vision or even end up losing it.

Where to begin…this hospital is HELL ON EARTH. No organization at all, absolute chaos in the waiting room. The magazines provided are all old issues of People & Cosmopolitan from at least a decade ago. Can we at least get some more updated options? Also…Way too much woke liberal nonsense here. The lady next to me tried to make me wear a mask because i have a SLIGHT cough & some sniffles. No I don’t have Covid & I don’t want your stupid mask. I am not a sheep. An insane amount of immigrants work at this hospital too…Are they even legal? I don’t understand what is happening to this country. It took us three hours before a doctor even came to speak to us. All we had before that was a nurse who looked BARELY old enough to graduate high school. She took my vitals okay but still…Isn’t there any kind of age requirement for medical professions anymore? I would give ZERO STARS if I could! God Bless America

Hi Karen, you seem to have a very pessimistic view of PTMC and also the world in general? Everyone on our staff is fully credentialed and qualified to work in medicine. Your stance on immigration is also illogical. In 2021, immigrants accounted for over 18% of the United States’ healthcare labor force. I had to go into the ER with a broken wrist and I was very apprehensive about it as I often have severe anxiety in medical settings. Dr. Mel treated me and she was very helpful. The only thing I would change about the experience was her habit of reciting some kind of rap song lyrics to herself. I’m not sure why she was doing this but I felt left out because I didn’t know the words.

My husband was hit by a motorcycle while we were walking downtown and had to be rushed to the ER here. I was allowed to stay with him while they were doing some kind of stabilizing operation. They managed to get him stable so I’ll give them credit for that. However everybody in the operating room seemed lazy and lacking in urgency. They kept making little quips to one another that were completely irrelevant. When I tried to steer them back on track, they told me to remain calm or they’d have to have security escort me out. Unacceptable.
They also brought down a surgeon to consult on the procedure, Dr.García, and she was in my opinion Extremely Unprofessional. She spent more time flirting with one other doctor (who I found out later had barely even graduated from student doctor status) than working on treatment for my husband. Without exaggeration, my husband was lying in the hospital bed and these two doctors were staring at each other like lovesick teenagers over his unconscious body. At one point Dr. García was talking about their astrological compatibility. How is that even allowed? My husband was taken up to surgery after his stabilization and he did make a full recovery so I’m grateful for that, but in my opinion those two doctors should not be allowed to collaborate on cases. They are both deeply unprofessional and unqualified to work in emergency medicine in general, if this is the way they operate when there are lives to be saved.
And as if that wasn’t bad enough, they’re lesbians. It would’ve been one thing if it was a normal relationship, but these were two WOMEN being overtly flirtatious with each other. Sickening.

Why don’t you try operating on a hundred or more patients every day, trying to save as many lives as possible and moving along without more than a second to reflect on the times when we don’t succeed? We’re doctors, but we’re also humans. We talk when we work, and yes, sometimes it might slightly stray from the case at hand, because it makes everything a little easier to carry, but guess what? We still do our fucking jobs. Your husband was stabilized and then saved, and that should be all that matters. If you really care about him, you probably should focus on that instead of going on a homophobic tangent like a loser. Also, not the point but I’m sure Dr. García wasn’t flirting with that other doctor. She was probably just being nice and making polite conversation, there’s no way she’s actually into her. I came into the ER to ask for help with a hearing-related health issue. Everyone laughed at me and did nothing to fix my problem. I don’t even know what to say at this point. Zero stars for the whole department, except that one MS4 guy who works there because he looks super cool and definitely not gay.
