After being taken out of the living hell known as a fight ring, Sanemi was pretty damn sure he was going to die. Being judged on if he should be allowed to live or die based on his behavior felt like a one-way trip to getting his neck cut, but somehow, somehow, he’d been deemed safe to keep.
And from there, his life has only gotten weirder. There was a temporary home where he healed from all but having his skull beaten in back before the ring shut down. When he moved on from there, foster places followed. None of them kept him for too long, but none of them were cruel. Staying in someone’s house never stopped being weird, though, and Sanemi was left with the sticky, persistent sense that he didn’t belong.
Now, the humans say they’ve found him somewhere permanent. He hears the whispers on the phone when they think he’s out of earshot. He’s being passed on to what they hope will be the last place he goes.

He’s an ugly one, one of them that doesn’t resemble a person much at all beyond his general shape. Deathly pale skin covered in thick, night-sky blue stripes, close-shorn hair, and huge, unblinking eyes with sclera like shattered glass. He’s not very big, but the way he’s hunched in the corner isn’t from fear. That’s pure tension.
What you read in the paperwork was horrifying. This demon is from a fight ring— one of the worst known yet. The conditions there were so brutal that they’d been shut down in a second, no chance to defend the brawls.
