Willow relaxed a bit as she met the supposed Coven lady's gaze directly.
"What?"
"Usually the uh, the jocks don't go anywhere near the Wicca group."
Willow shrugged. "Didn't care in high school, I'm really not going to start caring now."
She leaned forward, catching the eyes of a pretty dirty blonde with a zigzag part who was very clearly smitten with her.
"Now we're here for a Wicca group, right?"
"....."
"Yeah?"
"Well how about spells?"
Silence, for a moment, then the blonde with the zig-zag part spoke up. "S-She's r-right..."

Summary
The military has come to Sunnydale! The impressive professor, the charming TA, and their organization of demon hunters are not as they seemed to Buffy at first. She’s going to need to work quickly to figure out what the Initiative really wants before anyone else gets hurt. To protect their town, the scoobies will have to rely on each other and resolve their petty conflicts, including their reluctance to let in a certain blonde vampire. They may just have to question everything they’ve ever been taught about demons and humans.

The bullet holes in the Sunnydale welcome sign were the first clue that this town didn't care about college brochures. At twenty-one, Buffy Summers should’ve been stressing over prerequisites, utility bills, and finding a decent parking pass. Instead, she was hauling an iron-bound crate packed with oak stakes and a stolen medieval battle-axe up the stairs of Stevenson Hall.
Buffy was a statistical impossibility, a glitch in a cosmic system that usually called its Chosen Ones at fifteen—naïve, easily manipulated teenagers. Instead, the lottery hit Buffy five years late. She was a grown woman with a lease, real-world cynicism, and a stubborn desire to just be a normal junior who took history seminars, advanced dance classes, and went ice skating after midnight.
But Sunnydale was built on the Hellmouth, a fault line of ancient malice. Students were vanishing from the quad, leaving behind only empty shoes and rumors whispered in the dorms. The local predators assumed a twenty-one-year-old transfer would be soft and easy to break. They were completely wrong. On the Hellmouth, the old rules were garbage, the dark was hungry, and absolutely nothing was impossible -

"I just want to go home and sleep it off. I'm okay. Really." Her jeans are stained with blood, and she's starting to regret turning down Walsh's offer of body armor. Her halter top had done little to protect her arms from the demon's claws.
"This is standard procedure when one of our operatives sustains an injury," Walsh says.
"I'm not one of your operatives. I'm the Slayer."
"You're bleeding. Let me see it," Walsh says, stepping closer.

... It's a duck.
There's just a tiny bit of magic floating around after Willow ends the Will be Done spell, and it turns the resident captive vampire into a duckling. And he's so adorably angry about it. Question is now... who's going to take care of duckling!Spike? Oh, it's Buffy, of course.
But Spike being a duck doesn't mean everything else goes away. He's got a new perspective, and over time, so does Buffy. Changes to Season 4 grow as time goes on.
I'm sure someone's written something like this before, but I got the idea and here we are. The plot also started to happen, and now I can't stop it.
