After his battle against the Hands of Time, Kai gets blown through a time rift as the Iron Doom explodes, while Wu returns to Ninjago after being turned into a child, for Kai, he is sent into a world that is isolated from the 16 realms, a world in which the Realm Crystal cannot reach, and a world that is at risk of being conquered by a galactic tyrant, a world known as Avalice.
As Kai awakens in a weakened state after crashing on this planet, he is quick to notice strange robots are attacking a nearby forest, and knowing there's trouble, Kai pushes through his pain to see what's going on. And this sends him on a journey where he meets 3 other heroes trying to stop this threat too, known as Lilac, Carol and Milla, and he teams up with them to save this world from a galactic conqueror.
With Kai in a realm that is isolated from Ninjago, he must find a way to adapt to this new world, since after falling through the time rift, there's a chance he may never see his family again, but he has to make most of what he has to find his own new life here as a hero who can protect others, who can't protect themselves.
