Summary
The first segment of an original story about vampires, set in a fantasy world of multiple kingdoms inhabited by humans and other creatures. It follows the origins of the antagonist, a spiteful old has-been artist who is made dangerous by vampirism, and the protagonists: a spunky peasant girl who is determined to escape the monsters' clutches, and a sympathetic vampire known only as the Gardener.
The second chapter contains some further notes on the setting's lore and characters.

After a chance run-in she volunteers to join the Inquisition and becomes Head Scout as a result of her attitude and location savvy. Soon after, an elf joins the ranks. One that Lace finds herself quite curious about. Where they come from might be vastly different, but where they're headed will lead them on a parallel journey of adventure, acceptance, and appreciation with one another.

Elspeth Cousland survived the horrors of her family's purge and the Blight with barely a shred of her sanity intact, and is working to put herself back together again. She's determined to be useful and not get shoved to the sidelines. But when her old friend Nathaniel Howe returns to Ferelden, he's less than thrilled by his family's fate, and their friendship shatters under the weight of such trauma.
But from the ashes of the old friendship, they slowly find they can forge something new, and make a better world in the process.
Slightly altered DA universe. Hero of Ferelden is Kallian Tabris, mistress to king Alistair, and good friend of Elspeth (origins for this found in prologue). First person for Elspeth section, third person for Nathaniel. This fic will intersect with many of the events of DAA, but will not strictly repeat them - minor consequence of there being a surviving, non-Warden Cousland has some major impacts on the world. It will go into extra-game territory and original plot, particularly in tying some DAA and DA2 threads together in a largely canon compliant way.

Neria Surana spent her life playing by the rules. It suited her well enough to go to the Circle. The walls of the alienage had never felt constricting, but she’d never much wanted the life of a typical elven woman anyhow. She’d only ever wanted to learn, to read and study and figure out how the world worked, and the Circle seemed like a blessing... for a while.
Now, after twelve years of Tranquility, Neria is done with rules and restraint. She feels everything. Most of all, she feels anger: anger at the Circle that took so much from her and anger at the Inquisition that healed her. When she travels north seeking a fresh start, she meets a man named Fenris whose history is as improbable as her own.

Ser Delrin Barris finds himself unexpectedly at the fore of the Order as it rebuilds under the auspices of an organization that claims to have a divine mandate. He's glad to have the help of his friend Ser Belinda Darrow as he leads troops against demons and struggles with the follies of mankind.
Although he does wish she'd take the whole thing rather more seriously.
