Fed with poison and blood it would grow into a powerful monster and bring disaster wherever it went: plants were scorched by its breath alone, stones would burst by a mere look.

Summary
There was no good word for what Istvan was to Erik. He'd been the end of one life and the start of another. He'd provided for him, taught him, molded him. They were alike, but not the same.
He might have remained caught, unsure if he wanted to be Istvan or be with Istvan, had Istvan not left him behind to go on crusade and in his absence, left Erik's feelings to grow into something uncontrollable.

Erik listens to the ragged rattle of his breaths as he stares down at the murky puddle of mud before him. You won, he tells himself, then again when his body offers only a yawning pit where his heart would be. You won. An ache so encompassing he feels hollowed out.

He shouts again, finally reaching for his sword where it still stood in the dirt. He tries to suck in another breath as he grips the sword guard on either side of the blade. His arms ache as he lifts the weight of the sword up until he can rest the tip of it against the hollow of his throat. He kneels and can barely feel the bite of the blade over the pounding in his head, the roaring sound of blood in his ears, and the heavy thud of his heart. Even if he didn’t cut through it, he’d hit something else important.
“Fucking whoreson,” he whimpers, arms quivering in exertion as they kept the sword raised. “Do it.”~

Tedesco is searching Bellini’s face up and down in stupefied frustration, making a discovery he’s missed a hundred times before, lower lip twitching, hopelessly trying to fish out useful words. At first Lawrence is tempted to say Aldo’s audacity infuriates him, but the rage comes too late.
The truth is, it doesn’t seem like it wants to come out at all.
Then Tedesco’s face colours, oddly pinkier than usual. “... Eminenza Bellini.”
Cardinal Bellini blows the smoke back. Cardinal Tedesco, much to his chagrin, is stirred.

Summary
Sanada glances up at the stranger from under the sweaty lock of hair that’s fallen in front of his forehead.
He’s well dressed, well groomed, but something about the way he holds himself suggests strength. Sanada catches glints of silver at his wrists, probably cufflinks, and another coming from a silver tie bar at his chest. Tasteful, but distinctly expensive.
Milano holds his arm in front of him as he adjusts one of the cuff links, and as he does it his eyes meet Sanada’s. Sanada isn’t a man to shy away from someone else’s gaze, but the instinct to turn his head and whistle comes over him powerfully. He forces himself to stay steady, though, a neutral expression on his face, and the look he gets in return is definitely not a wink, but it’s somewhere in the neighborhood.

He is blessed, he knows, to be able to spend so much time discussing art and literature with Dio. Every word from his friend's lips is a gift. But he wants more. Pucci is a person with a wretched void at the center of his heart, and Dio is the only one who could ever make him whole.
He lies back a moment more, summoning up the strength to ignore his longing, then sits up. There's a spot of white tucked in among the velvet bedsheets. It's a note from Dio.
"Come to the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities at 8, and take your place among the possessions of kings."
