“That leaves us with the romance part,” Nanba said. “What do we know about Kiryu-san’s love life?”
“Yumi Sawamura,” Seonhee replied matter-of-factly. “Dead for nearly twenty years.”
Silence fell around the table as they all considered this new angle. If they were talking about any other guy Seonhee would have suggested finding him a pretty girl who’d show him a good time. [...] But she knew it just wouldn’t work. It’s not that Kiryu-san didn’t appreciate beautiful women; he just wasn’t a man who’d fall head over heels for one so quickly. It was a quality she admired about him, and which, at the same time, annoyed her to no end. The man was immovable like a mountain.
“There had to be someone else,” Saeko said. “You don’t really believe Kiryu-san didn’t even have a crush on anyone after Yumi died, do you?”

“Huh?” Bob looks at her, certain he’s misheard. Linda is smiling, all innocence, her head cocked curiously. “You want me to…”
“Come check out my place. If you want, I mean.” She blinks… weirdly. Like maybe she’s trying to flutter her eyelashes and not quite nailing it. It’s actually working for him. “No pressure.”
“Right. Uh, right.” No pressure. That’s fine. Bob is just going to go up to Linda’s apartment, and look around a little, and oh my god he feels his eyes flicker down to look at her mouth. Stop. He immediately forces himself to make eye contact again and finds a new glimmer in Linda’s eye, her smile just the tiniest bit wider. Crap, she definitely noticed. He’s about to stammer out something probably not very smooth when Linda, agonizingly slow, winks.
He feels himself go bright red. “Oh my god,” he breathes. “Yeah, uh, yep. Okay. Sounds good.”
The conclusion of Bob and Linda's first date.

The hands on his wrists, and his chains clinking, and then suddenly he’s dead weight slamming into the ground, into his own pool of drying blood, aggravating every injury and tearing a second-nature scream from his throat. He couldn’t move if he wanted to, laying there with his infected eye-socket in cooling sanguine fluid.
Majima vaguely registers a hand on his shoulder, carefully rolling him over onto his back. His head doesn’t touch the cold floor, held up by something.
And he sees, finally, in the haze, a pair of soft brown eyes staring down at him. They’re all he makes out.
Someone is speaking once more, and he knows he must be dreaming that same old dream again, because he whispers from a broken body, “Saejima?”
But this time, right as his sight starts fading out, his limbs turning to lead, he remembers the eyes creasing in stark confusion.

What if Majima was saved from the Hole and ended up in Kazama's custody? What if he couldn't let go of his loyalty to Shimano? And what if he met Kiryu Kazuma before the Empty Lot, before he went Mad Dog?

Kiryu was dead and he had meant to stay dead, but when Majima barged into the room with the loud, unapologetic sound of Kiryu's name on his tongue, scaring him out of his skin and making his heart soar jubilantly into his throat, he realized then and there just how full of shit he had been for the past three solitary years.
Kiryu was very much alive, and Majima wasn't going to let him leave without beating that terrible, glorious fact into his face where he couldn't ignore it.

"He sounded...different. Like someone had taken the Kiryu-chan he knew and loved and replaced him with a doppelganger; a hollow, empty version of the man.
It was kinda pathetic...whatever the fuck was going on.
Majima relented, content to just sit and smoke. The heat from the fire was pretty nice in the cold weather, and it wasn’t like he was about to give up a perfectly good seat in the park.
“I apologize…”
Kiryu said.
“I just...it’s-” He sighed again, like whatever he was about to say weighed heavy on his lips; caught in his throat.

Akiyama just looked so incredibly cute for once in this position, and she felt an overwhelming desire to reward her boss in some way for the tasks he had completed; like a wife letting her husband know just how proud she was of him. Hesitation plagued her thoughts, although the palpitations of her heart reassured her that this was something she so badly wanted. She was nervous, however, she wanted to try.
