That used to scare him when he was a kid, like nothing really mattered because they might as well be specks of dust in the cosmic order of things. But now Ray thinks, maybe it matters more, because of the huge unlikeliness of even existing in the first place. How many things had to go right in the chaos of all these different realms for him to end up right here, on this beach, with his fucked up arm and his best friend’s dog, on this beautiful, awful planet which keeps tearing itself apart?
Time heals almost all wounds. Ray has time, plus a pink plaster cast on his arm.

Ray's heart has continued to beat in spite of his death, but he hasn't really felt it until now. It hurts.
He reaches for Sand, takes him by the shoulders and pulls him in. He kisses him for the first time since his return. He doesn't think about the blood on his face until they separate and Sand's jaw and lips are smeared with it. Neither of them remark on it.
Ray dies and comes back to life as a monster haunting his past.

Part 1: Soleil
Soleil, who's lived by the rules of his Master for most of his life, largely secluded but passed around like a toy, isn't prepared to suddenly be told his Master is dead one day and those rules don't apply anymore. He moves in with three people that insist they are not his new Masters and who seem to be the antithesis of his former owner. As long as he's able to protect and live with his pup, Ness, he's fine. Even so, he can't help new feelings he doesn't understand that come with this new life of his.Athena, Ray, and Cyrill have settled into the nuances of their relationship over their years together. They make their relationship work largely through extensive communication and planning ahead. An omega hybrid who's too scared to look them in the eyes and whose vocabulary largely seems to be composed of the word "sorry" doesn't quite hit that mark, neither does his child who's never seen the outside world. Nevertheless they vow to help he and his child get back on their feet. Too bad they can't help the feelings they catch along the way.
Part 2: Sick Days
While Cyrill, Athena, and now Soleil are recuperating from the flu, Ray takes care of Ness.Featuring: bath time with jets, bedtime routines, blanket fort making, late night cry sessions, and feeling the weight of your kid in your lap.
Part 3: Superficial Sunshine, Spun and Sworn
Suddenly, with a chill down his back, Soleil understands the issue. They haven't realized that he's not actually a person.None of this kindness is meant for him.
Even so. Even if he has to lie, and lies always come with consequences, he can't help but want. He thinks he could bear any punishment for just a minute more of this warmth.
